October is nearly over. Cooler weather and shorter days have arrived. Our big event will be Halloween. This week would be a good week to have a Jack o’Lantern project. Families with smaller children might make this a family affair - converting a pumpkin into a Jack o’Lantern.
We would suggest using 2 pumpkins for the project - one to carve up and the other to make a pumpkin pie out of.
The Jack o’Lantern pumpkin might be the bigger of the two. First cut the top off. then remove the insides - seeds and inside. We usually put away a few seeds to plant for next year. They got put in a dish and left to dry out.
Carving the face should be a family affair with the kinds designing the face and then punching the holes for the face. To illuminate, use a candle. The smaller flat ones might be better as they won’t heat the lid as much. Then enjoy.
The second pumpkin could be harvested to make a pumpkin pie. Again, open the pumpkin and remove the seeds and insides. Then bake the pumpkin. When done scoop out the pumpkin and prepare the pie filling. As a family project we had to look up the directions on our famous cookbook. Then enjoy the pie too.
If you don’t care or have a second pumpkin, a can of pumpkin can still be used - and possibly has the recipe on the label. Enjoy it either way - completely homemade or store bought. Otherwise keep up with your fall chores and projects.
That includes caring for your house plants too.
Happy Halloween projects. Until next week.
Until next week.
