Another Murray County Fair is over. Not quite as big as in years past but at least was held this year. We hope things will be back to the usual normal next year.
As in past years there have been some interesting things to see. In last week’s column we discussed from years past. This year had one too. In the FFA barn with the young animals a sow gave birth to her baby pigs - 15. 10 males(future boars), and 5 girls (future sows). An attendant was there to answer questions. Very good.
When Father was still alive he though 10 baby pigs was enough for one sow. He brought in the overflow into the house for us to care for and raise until it was time to go to the hog house.
And our piglets remembered us too - especially at feeding time. Even in the hog house. Otherwise the fair had interesting highlights otherwise too. Some of us took advantage of the Monogram exhibit to fill up on cheese and sausage with water from the MCMC booth.
Then there were the free floats and pork burgers for members. As for exhibits things were nearly back to normal.
Now back to our gardens. We thank the rains for coming. Wish they could have come sooner. Our gardens still produce much. And need work between rains.
As mentioned in past columns, you could start your second garden to have fresh produce until freeze up. Back inside the house be sure to water your house plants.
Until next week.
