By Kim Maas It was August 8th, 2024. I was sitting by myself in my local clinic awaiting a CT scan. I had been struggling with breathing off and on for six months. Six months prior, I had an episode where I couldn’t breathe and tried doing telehealth for what I thought was a common cold. The doctor on telehealth told me I needed to go to urgent care in person and get a chest X-ray to see what the problem was. It was not something that could be diagnosed over the Internet. When I went to Urgent Care, I was told it was a regular cold, I did not need a chest X-ray, and that I would be okay in a number of days. I believed them, so the condition went on for six months until that CT scan.

By Norma Dittman Eighty members of the Busch family gathered together for a reunion on Saturday, July 11th, at the 125-year-old family farm, located five miles south of Fulda. The reunion was organized through a request from Carol Busch’s 92-year-old sister- in-law, Delores, of Lakeville, MN. She recalled the large reunion in 2001 when 250 people attended the farm’s centennial celebration. Knowing that the land has now been in the family for 125 years, Delores felt that it was time for another celebration.

The Slayton Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting businesses, organizations, churches, civic groups, families, and individuals to participate in the 2026 Prairie Days Parade, which will be held Saturday, August 15, at 1:00 p.m. in downtown Slayton.

Slayton City Council participated in a lengthy discussion at Monday night’s meeting regarding their capital improvement plans. Following the discussion, a motion was made and passed to call for a public hearing for the adoption of a five-year Capital Improvement Plan and the intention to issue General Obligation Bonds in an aggregate amount not to exceed $1,950.000. If passed, when voted upon, the capital improvements would be the construction of a new public works department shop and fire hall addition.

It took more than an hour of discussion, but the Murray County Commissioners accepted a high bid of $338,000 for the old highway department property located on Highway 30 on Tuesday, July 21 after the online auction listing closed the evening before. The winning bidder was not disclosed during the meeting.
