WORK BEGINS ON CANNABIS ORDINANCE

By Joanne Bergman for the Wheel/Herald The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. They accepted the 2024-2025 ATV Grant in the amount of $8328 and the 2024-2025 Snowmobile Grant both presented by Sheriff Heath Landsman. The amount of grant money was set by the State of Minnesota.

Assessor Chad Benda presented the Tax Court Settlement awarded to S & B Farms LLP for the 2022 assessment. The value of the land has been reduced from $1,262,000 to a value of $989,400. The value was permanently lowered to reflect the wet condition of the land. The value will be adjusted as the value of land increases or decreases following price trends. Yearly action by the landowner will no longer be needed.

Nick Demuth and Janet Timmerman reviewed historical museum action to alleviate duplication of items and elimination of others without provenance (no documentation accompanied the item). Other items of no historical value, in poor condition or dangerous to staff and visitors have also been returned to donors or of. Timmerman has been providing training and support to recently hired staff to increase their skills and knowledge. Grant monies have been received towards the Front Porch series, windows for the Dinehart house and a display cabinet for Native American artifacts.

The final payment for the Lime Lake Dam Project was approved to Henning Construction in the amount of $10962.50 as construction has been successfully completed. The total bid cost was $219,250.

The development of a Cannabis Ordinance and a moratorium on land use for growing or sale of the product was discussed. A public hearing was set for September 3 at 9:00 a.m. to consider ordaining and adopting an interim zoning ordinance instituting an emergency moratorium through January 1, 2025 on cannabis businesses. Commissioners Jackie Meier and Dennis Welgraven were appointed to a subcommittee to participate in research and discussions on Cannabis Legislation within local jurisdictions.

The next board meeting is scheduled for August 27, at 8:30 am in the Government Center meeting room.
