The Murray County Central Rebel Volleyball team was in action this past weekend in the Jimmy Johns Classic in Marshall. The Rebels would play five teams in two days from around the area. Tournaments like this one really test players to be focused and to bring their own energy because the crowds are smaller than regular games and the fans are not close to the floor to help boost a team’s energy level. The Rebels competed and fought in each game of the tournament, but the wins were hard to come by.

MCC opened the tournament against the MACCRAY Wolverines, one of the top teams in the Camden Conference. The Rebels fell two games to nothing. The Rebels then faced the Pipestone Area Arrows of the Big South and again the Rebels fell two games to nothing. MCC would wrap up pool play on Saturday morning against the Lakeview Lakers. The Rebels played tough, but for the second time this season, the Lakers got the win, this time 2-1. The Rebels bounced back against the Worthington Trojans, getting the win 2 to 1. The Rebels would wrap up the tournament against the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons and the Dragons would beat the Rebels 2-1. MCC finished the tournament with 1 win and 4 losses.

The one thing that stood out between Friday and Saturday was the Rebels hitting. MCC had just 13 and 11 kills in the first two games of the tournament. The Rebels also had just 7 total aces in the two games. The Rebel number skyrocketed on Saturday with the Rebels having more kills and aces in each game compared to the two game totals on Friday night. The Rebels were led in digs by Emmi Peltola. Suttyn Schryvers and Peyton DeGreeff led the Rebels in kills through the five games with Schryvers having a tournament high of 13 kills in the game against Lakeview. The Rebels did mix and match some of their lineups trying to find a good rotation that would help produce more points and opportunities. Those changes will be tested in the final three games of the regular season.
