The F/MCC Warriors finished up their regular season team wrestling last week with a dual on Thursday against TMB Panthers at home with a full gym. On Saturday they traveled to Wabasso to compete in the final four.
Thursday’s dual against Tracy/ Milroy/Balaton was the third time these teams have met this year and in the previous two meetups the Warriors defeated the Panthers handily. The lower weights were dominant as Luke Sweetman and Brodik Clarke scored 6-point falls against Eathan Johnson and Owen Beier. This put the Warriors up 12-0. Thomas Pruitt defended well against Taylor Squires and held him to a technical fall, giving up 5 team points to the Panthers.
Kaston Clarke got the Warriors back on track, going the distance and scoring a major decision on Logan Peterson. The Panthers answered with another tech fall, with Weston Marten defeating Dane Hansen.
Brayden Gilb showed a very strong performance again against Okley Bornitz, scoring a pinfall in the second period and putting the Warriors up 2210.
Trading points again, Teague Meyer was defeated by David Schuh in another tech fall. At 152, Lucas Kuball also fell by technical fall to Nolan Verlinde, closing the gap for the Panthers and leaving the score 22-20.
That would be all of the scoring for the Panthers, as the Warriors would win the rest of the matches. Quintin Lewis at 160 against Tyler Arnold had Q scoring the fall with 1 second left in the first period, with the crowd on both sides of the gym on their feet. 28-20 Warriors.
Next up was Jaxon Wendorff, scoring the fall as well against Mavrick Snyder about halfway through the second period. At 189, Luke Iverson took advantage of Nevin Marten, who got in on a leg that Iverson has been waiting for all year long. He got him into a tight Witzel, pinning Marten 1 minute into the first period. Big Vinny Bray went the distance with Lawton Verlinde. With the match tied late in the third period, Vincent scored 1 point on an escape to win the match 8-7 for a 3 point decision. Last but definitely not least, Colby Kesteloot at Heavyweight against Jack Willhite scored the pin 19 seconds into the third period making the final dual score 49 – 20. The Warriors didn’t give up a single pin the entire dual, just a couple tech falls.
The Warriors didn’t fare as well against the Jackson County Central Huskies. Kaston Clarke, Quintin Lewis, and Colby Kesteloot were the only Warriors to pick up wins as they fell 51-18 to the Huskies. The Huskies went on to beat the Adrian Dragons to make the state tournament again this year. We look forward to the section individual finals in Springfield MN, on February 21st starting at 10 am. Go Warriors.
