The F/MCC Warriors traveled to Pipestone on December 11 for a quadrangular against the Red Rock Central Falcons, and the Pipestone Arrows, who are both part of Section 3A. The Worthington Trojans rounded off the meet for a non-section matchup.

First up for the Warriors at 107 was George Rosenbrook. A scrappy wrestler, Rosenbrook got in on a leg early against Mason Weber of RRC, but couldn’t hang on as Weber scored a defensive takedown to score 3 in the first period. Weber held onto his momentum in the second period taking Rosenbrook down and scoring the pin. (Falcons 6, Warriors 0) Brodik Clarke at 114 fought off the advances of Braxton Weber for 45 seconds before succombing to a pin. (Falcons 12. Warriors 0) Kaston Clarke made weight at 121 and secureed the first team points for the Warriors with a forfeit. (Falcons 12, Warriors 6) Luke Sweetman at 127 showed good promise against Jackson Radmaker, going into the second period behind 3-1, giving up a takedown but securing a penalty point in the first. Sweetman starting on top in the second period, showed some good chain wrestling starting with a half then a cradle, to score a 2-point nearfall. Rademaker broke and scored a 2-point reversal of his own. Sweetman started bottom in the third and couldn’t get out, eventually giving up a pin to the Falcons. (Falcons 18, Warriors 6) Elijah Conway at 133 went 1 minute and 5 seconds in the first falling to Bryson Marsh. (Falcons 24, Warriors 6) Teague Meyer at 139 made a great showing of his wrestling prowess, dominating Marshall Willhite with 3 takedowns and 2 nearfalls, securing the 5 team points technical fall victory in the second period. (Falcons 24, Warriors 11) Curtis Johnson of the Warriors made weight at 145 and found a forfeit victory in his name scoring another 6 team points for the Warriors. (Falcons 24, Warriors 17) Lucas Kuball at 152, after a short hand fight with Noah Schunk, got a nice takedown and held a nearside cradle long enough for the referee to find his way around to see the shoulders of the cradled Falcon held flat on the mat, scoring another 6 team points for the War-riors. (Falcons 24, Warriors 23) Quintin Lewis and Jaxon Wendorff at 160 and 172 both recieved forfeits for their efforts, awarding the Warriors with another 12 points. (Falcons 24, Warriors 35) Luke Iverson at 189 scored on a whizzer, then allowed Jonah Skarupa to escape only to take him down again. This time Iverson slipped a knuckle roll half-in putting Skarupa on his back, scoring the fall for the Warriors. (Falcons 24, Warriors 41) The young Vincent “Vinny” Bray at 215 couldn’t hold on as Colton Schaffran of the Falcons scored the fall in the second period, narrowing the gap. (Falcons 30, Warriors 41) At 285, anchorman Colby Kesteloot wasted no time against Dawson Mariner of the Falcons, getting in on a single leg and going edge to edge on the mat before scoring the takedown. Kesteloot got Mariner in a hammerlock which slipped loose, then skunked a half and held on to the pin for the team win. (Warriors 47, Falcons 30) Dressed in green, the Pipestone Arrows were the next opponent for the Warriors. George Rosenbrook at 107 led off, going the distance with Oscar Ramirez. Rosenbrook lost the match 20-10, holding Ramirez to a major decision worth 4 team points. (Arrows 4, Warriors 0) Brodik Clarke at 114 wrestled well, holding Andres Guardado to a technical fall in the second period worth 5 team points for the Arrows. (Arrows 9, Warriors 0) Kaston Clarke at 121 drew Lane Fruechte of the Arrows and was quick out of the gate, but seemed to have trouble finishing his shots. Clark found his groove and scored the first takedown, but couldn’t hang on as Fruechte found an escape then a takedown of his own, finishing the period 4-3 Fruechte. The second period started with Fruechte in the down referees position. Clarke couldn’t hold his position, allowing Fruechte to score 2 points on a reversal. The third period was full of action as Clarke scored on back-to-back takedowns with a penalty in between on Clarke. Starting from neutral, Fruechte scored on a takedown and got his legs in on Clarke, inhibiting his movement and scoring 4 points on a nearfall to win a close decision for the Arrows. (Arrows 12, Warriors 0) Luke Sweetman at 127 and Brantley Klein both fell in the first period and the Warriors would forfeit to Miklo Hernandez to better their odds up high. (Arrows 30, Warriors 0) The Warriors scoring started with Teague Meyer at 145 making short work of Braxton Melcher, earning the 6-point pin in the first period. Lucas Kuball followed Meyer’s lead. The Arrows made a move and wrestled Haden Mulvihill up to avoid Quintin Lewis, who was awarded a forfieit. (Arrows 30, Warriors 18) Jaxon Wendorff put up a good fight against Mulvihill, but fell in the second period. (Arrows 36, Warriors 18) The Warriors would have to pin their way to a tie for the dual, with Luke Iverson winning an excellent match against Oliver Sterud, with a decision the dual would be a loss.

However, Vincent Bray and Colby Kesteloot both pinned their opponents in the first period, making the final score Pipestone Arrows 36, FMCC Warriors 33.

It was a very close dual - it’ll be exciting to see these two teams wrestle again later this season.
