The MCC Rebel Volleyball team was at home Monday night playing their final home game of the regular season.

The Rebels entered the game 11-9 on the season and with a win the Rebels would move 1 game over 500 in the Red Rock Conference. The Rebels faced the Red Rock Central Falcons, who were looking for just their fifth win of the season. The Rebels would pick up a win they absolutely needed.

It didn’t look good for the Rebels in the opening set as the Falcons scored the first 8 points of the game. The Rebels struggled with their serve return and it allowed the Falcons to get a strong start. The strong start wouldn’t last long, as MCC got the sideout they needed and scored five straight points to make the score 8-6 in favor of the Falcons. MCC continued to battle back behind the strong play of junior Kat Miller, who finished the first set with 4 kills. Erynn Rohrer’s strong serve aided the Rebels as they reclaimed the lead 13-12. The Rebels would take set one 25 to 17.

The Rebels dominated the play in set 2 as Suttyn Schryvers got locked in - the sophomore got one kill after another. It wasn’t the flashiest night for MCC, but Schryvers showed just how good she could be at the net or in the back row. The Rebels would take the second set 25 to 18.

The Falcons took an early lead during the third set. Abigale Evans and Ally Linder came up with key shots to keep the Falcons out front. Natasha Erickson served well, and on a pass to Paige Wondercheck the junior setter would record her 1,000th career set assist. The Falcons won the third set 25 to 20.

With the Rebels leading the match 2 sets to 1, they needed a boost. They got that boost from Schryvers, who would pound the ball into the floor over and over again. The Rebels took a big lead in the third period, which the Falcons chipped away, but the Rebels played some solid defense on their way to a 25 to 21 win and a victory 3-1.

Schryvers had a terrific match, leading the Rebels with 17 kills and 3 aces. Erynn Rohrer was strong from the service line collecting 7 aces in the game. Kat Miller finished the game with double digit kills. The Rebels got the win they needed, pushing them to 12 and 9 on the season with one game left on the schedule Thursday night in Pipestone. The playoffs will begin next week.
