Once again Mother Nature made it hard for Hadley to get all their scheduled games played.
The ones Hadley played did not go the way Hadley would have preferred as they lost both games. Here is the week’s recap: Wednesday at Marshall MARSHALL 3 HADLEY 2 Hadley traveled to Marshall to take on the A’s from the Corn Belt League in an exhibition game. Hadley has always had trouble with Marshall at Legion Field. Usually, Hadley has starts out hot, but Marshall awakens and takes over the game.
Wednesday night’s game was something different. The game turned out to be a pitcher’s duel and victor not determined until the end. Unfortunately for the Hadley faithful, the end was not in the Buttermakers favor.
Abe Paulzine would get the starting nod on the bump for Hadley. Both teams had chances early in the game to take command. Abe would leave A’s runners stranded in scoring position in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innings. Hadley on the other hand, squandered 3 prime opportunities to score. In the 4th inning, Hadley would load the bases with 2 outs, but Eric Wieneke would hit into a fielder’s choice. In the 5th, Hadley would put their first 2 runners at the plate for the 3rd out. In the 6th inning, Brent Hokeness would hit a lead-off double, but Hadley would leave him stranded there.
Marshall would be first to score. In the 7th, Abe would give off a lead-off single, but Abe then would pick the runner off 1st for out number 1. Abe would record a strikeout for the 2nd out. Abe would then hit the next batter and then follow with a walk. The next A’s batter would rip a double to score a run. Abe would get a strike out to end any further damage.
Hadley would finally get on the board in the 8th inning. After a first out ground out, Derek Kluis would single. Brent Hokeness would double to put runners in scoring position. Derek Kluis would score on a wild pitch. Avery Weber would come through and single scoring Hokeness and a 2-1 Buttermaker lead.
Skyler Feikema would take over for Abe on the mound in the 8th and move the game to the 9th with the lead in Hadley’s favor. Hadley would go down on the order in the top of the 9th. In the bottom of the inning, Marshall would get a lead-off infield single. Skyler would attempt a pick-off of the runner on 1st base, but his throw would be off the mark and roll down the right field fence as the runner advanced to 3rd base. Skyler would give up a walk and hit an A’s batter to load the bases. With the infield drawn in, the next Marshall batter would drive a ball into left field to score two and a 3-2 heartbreaking Marshall victory.

Brent Hokeness led Hadley with 3 hits, Derek Kluis would pick up 2 hits and Mike Preuss and Avery Weber getting Hadley’s other 2 hits. Skyler Feikema would be charged with the loss.
Final Box Score RHE Hadley 2 7 1 Marshall 3 5 2 Sunday – vs Jackson – 7 Innings The scheduled double-header for Sunday turned out to be just one game. Due to the weekend rains, field conditions in Heron Lake postponed the match-up for a later date. Jackson would relocate their game to a diamond in Windom as an alternative playing site.
Whenever Jackson and Hadley match-up, it seems that the team that has the clear advantage over the other team, but outcome of the always the game always goes the opposite way. Sunday’s game certainly played out that way. Hadley had Tucker Sorenson on the mound after his 18-strikeout game from the last Sunday’s game and complete regular starting lineup. Jackson on the other hand, was playing the game with only 4 regular starters and 5 bench players. Unfortunately for Hadley, Tucker Sorenson was not on top of his game and the Jackson starting pitcher would befuddle the Buttermakers hitting attack as the Bulls had no problem in defeating the Buttermakers 8-1.
Jackson would score in the bottom of the 1st. A lead-off double and a hit batter would set things up for the Bulls. A wild pitch and a passed ball would quickly put Jackson up 2-0. In the 3rd, Alex Petersen would reach on an infield single and advance to 3rd on a 2-base throwing error, but that would be as far as he would get as Hadley as Hadley would hit two comebackers to the pitcher to squelch the opportunity.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the roof fell in for Hadley. Tucker would walk the first 3 Bulls batters and get 3 straight hits resulting in a Hadley pitching change. The Bulls would end up scoring 6 times to go up 8-0. Avery Weber came into relieve Tucker and Avery would keep the Bulls off the board for the rest of the game.
Hadley was able to score a run in the 7th to avert the shutout. Owen Gillette would score on bases loaded fielder’s choice from Alex Petersen.
Joe Larson and Bryce Ahrendt would get Hadley’s only other hits. Tucker Sorenson was charged with the loss moving record to 2-2 for the season.
