Slayton City Administrator Josh Malchow informed the Slayton City Council on Monday evening that just hours before the Legislative Session closed, the House and Senate passed a Bonding Bill that includes the city’s 34th Street Project. The amount approved for the project is $2 million. The project will involve full reconstruction from Juniper Avenue to 160th Street. Malchow assumes that the funds will be released sometime during July of 2027.
Malchow informed the council that he had applied for a grant through the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council for artwork to be placed in the administrator’s office. A grant for $1,500 has been received and will be used to purchase a piece that will be about 5 feet wide by 2 or 3 feet tall. The piece will be compiled by Derek Meier, a Murray County Central graduate.
The purchase of the natural gas utility was finalized on May 19th, with final documents signed by Mayor Miron Carney and City Administrator Josh Malchow.
The council approved a proposed architectural contract for the Public Works Shop at a cost of $21,740.
Work continues at the WonderWorld building site, with water and sewer currently being installed.
The council approved Kennedy and Graven (Josh Weir) to be the city attorney on record for non-prosecutorial issues. Weir has been one of the primary attorneys for the electric/natural gas utility processes and serves as the city attorney for multiple other cities in Minnesota.
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2026, 6pm
