The Slayton City Council met in regular session on October 7, 2024 with all council members present. The agenda was approved with no additions. The minutes from the last meeting and claims were approved.
FEMA application deadline has been extended to October 27, 2024. This may be moved again, due to the recent hurricanes. Councilman Blake Heronimus and City Administrator Josh Malchow are working at getting an in-person meeting with Xcel in the Cities, hoping to have a chance to better explain our positions and come to a “meet in a middle” solution regarding their opinion on loss of revenue. No date has been set yet.
The council added Wonder World to the Pending list as well as needing to set up two workshops; one for sewer and water rates and one strategic discussion for how we proceed in regard to land and facilities planning for the future. It was agreed that they would hold one of those workshops after the next regular meeting.
Wanting to come up with a permanent solution, Champ Drive was discussed once more. After much discussion, it was decided to open the road for snow removal each year from Nov. 15 - April 15 and close it for construction season from April 15-Nov. 15. This was approved by a 3-2 vote.
Next on the agenda was the Airport Fuel Pump. While we do not have full MnDoT approval yet, the Council approved to purchase the Fuel Master Pump System from Dokkendorf Equipment Co. Inc., if MnDOT is fine with the increased adjusted pricing. The Fuel Master Pump was not an option originally and this option is higher up front, but substantially lower in yearly costs to use it.
The council next approved making the final payment for the 28th Street Sidewalk Improvements.
In new business, they held a Public Hearing for the CDBG Broadband Grant. This is required by the State of Minnesota. There was no one present for the hearing. However, there have been complaints about the amount of pea rock left in the boulevard where the new poles have been placed. The city will register a complaint, asking them to remove the excess rock, and replace with black dirt in the Right-of-Ways.
Deputy Clerk Jackie Giesen was approved to attend the MCFOA Annual City Clerks Conference on March 17-21, 2025. City Administrator Josh Malchow was approved to attend the Coalition Of Greater Minnesota Cities Conference on Nov. 21& 22, 2024.
The council then moved into closed session for the discussion of property sale.
