The city council met on Monday, February 5th. Mayor Miron Carney asked for corrections, questions, or additions to the agenda, the regular meeting minutes from January 16th, and the Special Meeting from January 24th (Electric Municipal) meeting on January 24th. There were none. All were approved as printed.
There was a claim from the Murray County Animal Control bill that was in question. The bill was presented to the city for all of 2023. Mr. Erickson had been under the understanding that they wanted one at the end of the year. Going forward, the bill will be submitted quarterly. All documentation was provided by Mr. Erickson. This claim, along with the ones submitted in January, was approved by the council.
Next, the council discussed pending business. City Administrator Josh Malchow requested that a special meeting be called to prepare for the February 26th Public Hearing due to some positive changes. The council scheduled the Special Meeting for Tuesday, February 13th, at 5:30. There was no other pending business.
Unfinished business was next on the agenda. Resolution 02-05-2024 Approving Design and Ordering Advertisement of Bids for the 2024 Maple Avenue Street Project. Councilman Blake Heronimus questioned the work being done by the courthouse, which wasn’t included in the original scope of work. Since the mill and overlay work is already going to be done, the council didn’t see an issue with this. The cost of this work will come out of the water fund and will not be assessed. There is a slight change in the scope of work to the curb and sidewalk near Cenex and Brinks Building then heading down Maple towards Front Street due to the severe damage in that area. They needed to go further to tie it all together. The resolution was approved by the council.
City Administrator Josh Malchow discussed the first item of new business, which is a request to decrease the size of the Library Board. The City Ordinance states that there should be seven members on the board. The Library Board has been functioning with only five members for an extended period due to a lack of interested parties. Mayor Miron Carney asked if there were any other ordinances that needed to be changed at this time since a public hearing needed to be held. City Administrator Josh Malchow will review the ordinance list to see if other changes are needed and report back to the council.
Mayor Miron Carney and City Administrator Josh Malchow requested that the city pay for their attendance at the 2024 Coalition Greater MN Cities Legislative Action Day. The council approved their attendance and lodging costs.
The final item on the agenda was the Fire Department Schools and the attendance to those. There are four held in March and four in April. The board approved payment for lodging for those who will be attending.
