The MCC Rebel Girls Basketball team wrapped up their week at home for their third straight home game of the week. The Rebels hosted the RTR Knights in the second meeting between the two teams this season. The Knights and the Rebels both have 8 wins this season but the Rebels had three more losses than the Knights coming into the contest. The Knights have proven to be a tough team to beat for MCC over the last several years and that continued on Thursday as the Knights picked up their ninth win.

The Rebels would play a strong first half, leading early in the game 10-4 on a ten-tonothing run by the Rebels. MCC struggled with 16 turnovers in the first half but they played great defense on the Knights to keep the game close. Ava Deacon played a strong half for the Rebels, leading the team with 5 points. The foul trouble the Rebels got themselves into, cost them dearly. RTR would score the final seven points of the half as they led at the break 23 to 19.

The second half saw RTR pull away from the Rebels midway through the half and try as they might, MCC could not catch up. The first-half foul trouble became an issue down the stretch, as Jayda Hellewell and Abby Overman both fouled out. Hellewell with 6:41 left in the game and Overman with 2:54 to play. The two seniors leaving the game cost the Rebels two of their top scorers in the game and though Ava Deacon led the Rebels, it became harder for her to get open late in the game with two key players fouling out. RTR finished the game strong, winning 56 to 42.

The Rebels turned the ball over 22 times against the Knights and forced RTR into 20 but the Rebels struggled to rebound and though the team showed a great deal of balance on offense, the only player who was clicking was Ava Deacon, who scored 13 for the Rebels to lead the team. RTR was led by Allyson Nelson who scored 13 as well, but she took over late in the second half and not only scored, but got open shots for her teammates. The loss dropped the Rebels to 8 and 12 on the season with games coming up this week against HBC, Windom, and WWG.
