May 7 Rebel Relays
A unique twist on the traditional track and field meet once again brought excitement and energy to the annual Rebel Relays as Murray County Central Rebels hosted six teams in its popular “true team relay” format.
Several years ago, the MCC coaching staff reimagined the longtime Rebel Relays by removing all individual awards and focusing entirely on team success. Every running event is contested as a relay, while field events combine the top three marks from each school to determine team placement. The format has become a favorite among athletes, coaches, and fans for the teamwork and strategy it emphasizes throughout the meet.
This year, the Rebels made the most of their home competition, turning in a dominant performance on the boys side while also posting several standout efforts in the girls competition.
The MCC boys captured the team title with 150.25 points, well ahead of second-place Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda’s 107 points. MCC won four relay events and showed tremendous balance across the track and field events.
