The MCC Rebel Girls opened their toughest week of the season on Monday night. The Rebels play two games on the road in Edgerton this week. The Rebels took on SWC Monday night (February 12) and on Thursday (February 15) they will play at Edgerton Public. The Rebels have just three games left in the regular season looking for their ninth win of the year. That win wouldn’t come on Monday against the top team in the Red Rock Conference.

The SWC Eagles didn’t have a great offensive game against the Rebels on Monday. They only shot 37% from the field and made just 25% of their three-point shots, but they were in control of the game after the first six minutes. The Rebels came out and played solid basketball for the first six or seven minutes of the half, but then the Rebels allowed a ten or twelvepoint run that would open up the game. MCC just couldn’t get any rhythm on offense because of the Eagles defense. MCC would score 15 first-half points but would turn the ball over 14 times. The Eagles led at the half 33 to 15.

The second half wasn’t pretty for anyone. The Eagles outscored the Rebels 23 to 16 in the half ,but it wasn’t pretty basketball. The Eagles showed what makes a good team. When part of your game is off, another part of your game can lead you to a victory. The Eagles didn’t shoot all that well in this game, but they held the Rebels to just 9 of 50 shooting. The Rebels fell to the Eagles 51 to 26.

The Rebels shot just 18% from the field and you are not going to win a game shooting like that. The Eagles on the other hand, didn’t have a great shooting night, but 4 players scored in double figures. Jocelyn Barron scored 15 points, Makenzie Pap 14, Hannah Caspersen 11, and Ana Veldkamp 10. The Rebels were led by Jayda Hellewell with 6 points, while Ava Deacon and Thea Schneider scored 5 each. Calleigh Doeden scored her first varsity points of her career with two free throws. The Rebels will play on Thursday at Edgerton Public.
