  • Looking back at this game one stat really sticks out. The Rebels combined for 16 kills in the game but they committed 17 attacking errors. The Knights, on the other hand, got 14 kills alone from Paisley Thooft. Emmi Peltola finished with 20 digs for the Rebels, while Kate Blankenship added 11. The Rebels are now 10-11 on the year and will finish the season against the Dragons of Adrian Ellsworth next Monday night. The playoffs will begin the following week after MEA.

The MCC Rebels played their 8th game in the last seven days on Tuesday night. In that time the Rebels played some good volleyball teams, but on Tuesday the Rebels would play the Russell Tyler Ruthton Knights. The defending state champions have had a strong year. While they had to replace 5 seniors from last season, the Knights remain one of the best teams in the area and one of the favorites in Section 3A. The Rebels were put to the test and the Knights got the victory.

To beat a team like RTR a team has to be on point, limiting their own mistakes and taking advantage of any opportunity that comes along. Shots that might be points against many teams won’t be scoring points against teams that can defend like the Knights. The Rebels started each of the three games well, getting out to good starts. In game one, the Rebels scored the first three points of the set, but RTR answered back with the next seven. The Knights fed Paisley Thooft and the sophomore led the RTR offense in kills. The two teams would get into some long rallies, but far too many ended with the Knights getting a big hit for a kill. The Rebels scored on some great plays, but RTR just made more shots. RTR took game one, 25 to 15. The second and third games were very similar with the Knights winning 25 to 16 and 25 to 16.
