MCC 56 TMB 41
The MCC Rebel Girls traveled to Tracy on Monday night to take on the Tracy Milroy Balaton Panthers in a nonconference matchup. Though it wasn’t a conference game it was a section game and could play a factor in seeding down the road. The Rebels were looking to get back in the win column after just one game in the last week. The Rebels didn’t play their best game of the season, but the Rebels did play a consistent game on their way to a victory.
The Rebels and the Panthers are two similar teams. Both have struggled to score this season. It didn’t look like that in the first three possessions, as eight points were scored and the Rebels led 5 to 3 after just a minute of playing time. MCC played a very slow tempo, but it worked for them in the first half, as they limited turnovers and scoring opportunities for the Panthers. Kelli Miller led the Rebels attack, scoring 7 first half points. Both Miller and Ava Deacon got in foul trouble with two early fouls each. Kate Blankenship stepped up at the point guard position, leading the Rebels to a 25 to 14 halftime lead.
In the second half, Thea Schneider scored six quick points and assisted on another basket by Kat Miller as the Rebels extended their lead. Schneider played a terrific half, scoring 13 points and Kat Miller, who was scoreless in the first half, scored 9 in the second. Ella Voss led the Panthers in the second half, scoring 9 points. The Panthers cut the Rebel lead to nine points in the second half, but the run didn’t last long, as MCC pulled away to get their third win of the season 56 to 41.
The Rebels outshot the Panthers from the field, with TMB making 21% of their shots and the Rebels making 31%. The Rebels outrebounded the Panthers by 6 and they had 6 less turnovers than the Panthers, which aided in the MCC victory. Thea Schneider was the only Rebel in double figures, with 13 points. Kat Miller scored 9 in the second half. Ava Deacon and Kelli Miller scored 7 points each in a balanced effort by the Rebels. Ava Deacon led the Rebels with 10 rebounds on their way to the win. Malaina Ankrum led the Panthers in scoring with 11 points. The Rebels wouldn’t get to celebrate long as they play Edgerton on Tuesday night in a Conference matchup.
