BASEBALL VS HLOF

The MCC Rebel Baseball team was back at home on Thursday when they played host to the Heron Lake Okabena Fulda Coyotes. The Rebels sent Dylan Kluis to the mound. The junior made his first start of the season, after dealing with injuries that limited his mound time this season. Kluis got the Rebels out to a great start and the MCC bats finished off the Coyotes.

Kluis pitched the first three innings of the game and the junior was sharp, striking out 5 and walking 1 in just 3 innings. He also held the Coyotes to just one hit over the first three innings. Teague Meyer came into the game and though he allowed 3 hits in 3 innings,

BASEBALL VS MINNEOTA

The MCC Rebels were back in action on Tuesday in Minneota. The Rebels and the Vikings are two teams battling for the top spot in the upcoming section playoffs. The Rebels have been playing well. They entered the game 10-2 on the season, while the Vikings were 9-3 on the year. With the Rebels playing on Monday and having two of their top pitchers out for Tuesday the Rebels needed a strong performance by Dylan Kluis who was making his start of the year.

The Rebels needed a big start from Dylan Kluis and they got it, as the junior would do a great job of limiting the Vikings all game long. Kluis pitched a season-high six and two-thirds innings. Kluis would allow three runs, all earned, but he allowed just 6 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 9 Vikings. Minneota scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning and Kluis held them scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, when the Vikings scored a pair of runs. Cayden Veldhuisen relieved Kluis, to pick up the final out of the game as the Vikings scored 3 runs in the game.

The Rebel offense wouldn’t have the same type of night as they did on Monday, when they collected 21 hits in the game against TMB. In fact, the Rebels would only score runs in one inning. With MCC trailing 1 to 0, heading to the top of the fourth inning the Rebels needed to put some hits together and they did just that. The inning opened with Cayden Veldhuisen getting on via a Minneota error, but two pitches later, he was picked off first base for the first out. Jesse Klein singled, as did Gavin Gillette, to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Teague Meyer doubled to centerfield, scoring Klein. With runners at second and third, the Rebels took the lead on a passed ball by the Minneota catcher, putting the Rebels ahead 2-1. The second out of the inning came on a ground out by Aidan Dierks. Dylan Kluis singled to the right side, scoring Meyer from third, putting the Rebels ahead 3-1. Carter Hanson came in to run for Kluis and stole second base. Krew Schneider singled and Hanson scored, putting the Rebels ahead 4-1. The damage was done and the Rebels would make the four runs stand up and get the win, 4-3.

Dylan Kluis got the win for the Rebels, going 6 and 2/3rds innings, striking out 9 while giving up 3 runs. Cayden Veldhuisen got the save in relief, pitching the final out of the game. Aidan Dierks and Dylan Kluis drove in runs over the final four innings and the Rebels got the win 8-0.

BASEBALL VS TMB

The Murray County Central Baseball team took on the TMB Panthers on Monday night in an important Section 3A matchup. The Rebels have had a terrific season to this point of the year, but every game played against Red Rock Conference and Section opponents is crucial in securing the best seed possible heading into the tournaments coming up in one week. With four games in five days, every game is big for the Rebels and they would get the week off to a chaotic but successful start.

The Rebel bats were ready, as MCC scored eight runs in the first five innings. The Rebels scored two in the first, with runs driven in by Krew Schneider and Dugan Kluis. The Rebels added another three runs in the second inning on hits also from Dylan Kluis and Krew Schneider. The Rebels led five to one heading to the fifth inning, when MCC scored three more times. Dylan Kluis singled in one runner and Owen Gillette drove in two. The Rebels led at this point 8-1, heading to the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 9 to 4. It appeared the Rebels had things under control heading to the bottom of the 7th inning, but the Panthers had other ideas. The Rebels pitching staff got a little wild with four walks and four singles in the inning. The Rebels used three pitchers in the inning and the Panthers scored five runs to tie the game at 9-9 and force extra innings.

In sports, to find out just how good of a team you have, you must overcome a difficult situation. In baseball, giving up 5 runs in the last inning is about the biggest test you are going to get and the Rebels showed what type of team they can be. The Rebels came to the plate in MCC would combine for 10 hits in the game. The Rebels got two hits each from Teague Meyer, Dylan Kluis, and Dugan Kluis. Schneider drove in three runs in the game, with Dylan Kluis driving in two. The Rebels, on defense, shut down the Coyotes, holding them scoreless. It was a balanced effort, with each Rebel pitcher throwing well. Dylan Kluis got the win on the mound. It was a great team win, as the Rebel hitters remained ready behind the good pitching. The Rebels will play 5 games the next week.
