The regular meeting of the Murray County Board of Commissioners was held on Tuesday, March 05, 2024. Auditor Treasurer Heidi Winter requested an additional $2,000 on behalf of the AARP Committee for key fobs for doors in the Government Center. This will complete the changeover in the building. Winter presented a list of businesses requesting 3.2 Malt Liquor license renewals including Rolling Hills Golf Club, Cenex convenience stores and Ruppert’s Oil.
Two bids were received for the 2024 road overlay projects with Duininck as the apparent low bidder at $4,935,936.28 an amount well below the engineer’s estimate or $5,208,612.78. The contract will be awarded at the completion of the paperwork needed for a federal aid project.
Murray County Medical Center CEO, Luke Schryvers, presented his monthly report to the Commissioners. January numbers were very strong with an increase of inpatients over last year. ER visits remain high while clinic patients were down slightly from last January. There is currently $8.8M in total cash available. Revenues were above budget for the month and expenses were below budget. For the month the net income was positive at $178,707. The legislature is being watched closely for support of EMS services.
Human Resources Director Charlotte Seager informed the Board of the hiring of Nathan Wurpts for the newly created Facilities Manager position at a wage of $31.05 hr. He comes with experience in a variety of building and construction skills. Employees will be participating in one week of March madness with food, games and competitions to earn points. The winner will receive four hours of Paid Time Off with the Board’s approval.
Sheriff Heath Landsman presented the contracts with the seven small cities in the County. They give his department authority to enforce the individual ordinances in each of the cities.
