MOTHER NATURE STRIKE AGAIN – BUTTERMAKERS GO 2-0

By: Mark Zinnel- Buttermaker Reporter Mother nature rained out the Buttermakers game on Saturday in Jackson, but Hadley would manage to get their other scheduled games played during the week. The Buttermaker bats heated up and the runs kept coming as Hadley went undefeated for the week in two blowout victories. Here is the week’s recap: Wednesday at Lakefield HADLEY 13 LAKEFIELD 0 – 7 INNINGS Hadley traveled east to take on First Nite League opponent, Lakefield Horned Frogs. The young Frog squad usually plays a tough, scrappy game against the veteran Buttermaker in Lakefield. Wednesday’s game had the Buttermakers easily managing the Frogs as they hopped their way to a 13-0 victory. Every Buttermaker player contributed to the win.

Hadley would threaten right away n the 1st, but a line drive out resulted in a double play to end the scoring threat. In the 2nd Hadley would start the scoring. Avery Weber and Alex Petersen would hit backto- back doubles to score 1 run and then singles from Joe Larson and Derek Kluis would put Hadley up 3-0. Hadley would put two more runs on the board in the 3rd on 2 hits, a Frog error, and a hit batter. Both of Hadley’s runs would come as the result of a passed ball and wild pitch. In the 4th, two walks and another Frog error would load the bases. Lincoln Graven would single to put the Buttermakers up 6-0. Hadley would lengthen their lead to 12-0 in the 6th inning. The Lakefield relievers would walk three and hit 2 Buttermakers batters. Hadley would only get 3 hits in the inning in scoring the 6 runs. Hadley would add a solo run in the 7th on a Tucker Sorenson double.

Jacob Van Dam would pitch a complete game 2-hitter to move his record to 1-1. Jacob would record 10 strikeouts and walk only 3 Frog batters. Lakefield would pick a hit in the 4th and 5th innings.

Tucker Sorenson led Hadley with 4 hits. Joe Larson, Derek Kluis and Brent Hokeness had 2 hits, with Abe Paulzine, Lincoln Graven, Avery Weber, Alex Petersen, and Mike Preuss picking up 1 hit. Joe Larson led Hadley in the rbi department with 3, Alex Petersen and Tucker Sorenson had 2, with Evan Lenz, Owen Gillette, and Lincoln Graven each getting 1 rbi.

Final Box Score RHE Hadley 12 15 1 Lakefield 0 2 2 Sunday vs. Worthington HADLEY 23 WORTHINGTON 3 – 7 INNINGS Worthington came to Hadley on a sunny, windy, muggy Father’s Day to take on the Buttermakers. Hadley was hoping to take the season series against the Cubs. It was a wonderful day for the Buttermakers as they had no problem in dismantling the Cubs in runaway fashion in a shortened 7-inning game.

Hadley got off to a great start in the 1st when they scored 8 times on only 3 hits. The Cubs starting pitcher walked 3 Buttermaker batters, hit one, and the Cub defense would commit 2 errors in aiding Hadley’s scoring. Joe Larson hit a grand slam accounting for 4 of the Buttermakers’ runs. Worthington would score a run in the 2nd inning on a solo homerun to pull to within 8-1 Hadley continued their hitting in the 2nd when they scored 2 runs to go up 10-1. Hadley’s runs would come from a leadoff triple by Brent Hokeness, an infield groundout by Max Zwart and a run scoring single later in the inning by Jakob Olson.

Worthington would pick up 2 runs in the 3rd to get back to a 10-3 deficit. A Buttermaker error led to both runs for Worthington being unearned.

Hadley would blow the game open in the 3rd when they brought 14 men to the plate and scored 9 runs to go up 19-3: forcing a Cub pitching change. Worthington allowed 6 hits to the Hadley offense, walked 3, hit 2 batters and committed 2 errors to contribute to the Buttermaker scoring.

Hadley finished their scoring in the 6th inning when they would score 4 runs on 3 hits. Skyler Feikema led off the inning with a triple and came in to score on a Cub fielding error. With the bases loaded, Owen Gillette would single to bring in 2 of the Buttermakers and Joe Larson would single to end the scoring for Hadley for the day.

Tucker Sorenson started on the mound for Hadley and had himself a great outing. Tucker held Worthington to only 5 hits and 3 runs, with only one run earned. Tucker would walk only one Cub hatter in the complete 7-inning game while striking out 18 Cubs. Tucker Sorenson earned the victory moving his record to 2-1.

On the hitting side, Joe Larson had a great Father’s Day as he went 3-3 with 6 rbis for the day. Brent Hokeness would chip in with 3 hits and 2 rbis. Derek Kluis, Jakob Olson, and Alex Petersen all had 2 hits. Max Zwart, Abe Paulzine, Skyler Feikema, Eric Wieneke and Owen Gillette completed Hadley’s hitting with 1 hit each. Max Zwart picked up 3 rbis, Jakob Olson, Alex Petersen, and Owen Gillette would get credit for 2 rbis with Eric Wieneke, Derek Kluis and Abe Paulzine each getting 1 rbi.

RHE Hadley 23 17 1 Worthington 3 5 5 Hadley will have a busy week of baseball as they will be road warriors for the week. Hadley will travel to Marshall on Wednesday to take on the A’s in an exhibition game. Hadley will travel to Milroy Irish Yard on Saturday to battle against Class B team, Stockmen’s Irish in a 2:00 scheduled game time. On Sunday Hadley will play a double-header when they travel to Heron Lake to face the Lakers in a 12:00 start and then off Jackson to take on the Bulls from game postponed on Saturday. Game time in Jackson sometime after 3:00.
