MN DNR CONFIRMS AVIAN INLUENZA IN DECEASED BIRDS IN AREA

After testing specimens, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that Avian Influenza has been found in deceased birds in and around bodies of water in Murray County. Conversations with local and state partners show this is affecting the tri-state area.

Do not handle sick or deceased birds.

This strain of Avian influenza is transferable to domestic cats, dogs, humans, and wild foxes. Symptoms in pets mimic those of rabies, while in humans, the symptoms can include fever, body aches, respiratory illness, and red or itchy eyes.

More information, including guidance for hunters, backyard flock management, public health monitoring, and PPE requirements for being around and handling sick birds, is available on the Murray County website at www.murraycountymn. com.
