The MCC Rebel Volleyball team has gotten off to a good start in the Red Rock Conference. After losing their first two games of the year the Rebels have won three straight games with two wins coming in the Red Rock Conference. The Rebels were trying to extend the winning streak to four games with a win Tuesday night in Mountain Lake. The one thing that has been true of every win for the Rebels this season is you never know who will be the best or most impactful player for the team. The Rebels’ balance has helped them through games when one or two players have not played as well as two other players have stepped up.
Every volleyball game has stretches of good to great play from both teams. How long the good plays last determine who wins the game or not. On Tuesday the Rebels dominated the play much of the night. The Wolverines seemed to play their best late in each set but the Rebels had big leads heading into those moments. In game one the Rebels built a 24 to 18 lead. The Wolverines would get sideout and would score five straight points but the Rebels would seal the game 25 to 23. In set two the Rebels led by as much as 11 points but again the Wolverines would make a run to close the gap but MCC would win 25 to 20. In the third set the Wolverines would lead early but the Rebels would settle in and take control over the middle portion of the set. The Wolverines would rally again late in the game but it was too late as the Rebels would win the final set 25 to 21.
The Rebels had a very balanced attack on Tuesday. The Rebels had five players record between six and four kills. Thea Schneider and Kate Blankenship had six kills each, Peyton DeGreeff had 5, while Reese Gilbertson and Suttyn Schryvers would connect on four each. Thea Schneider and Kelli Miller led the passing attack with 13 and 11 set assists respectively. Even the Rebels defense was balanced as THea Schneider led the team with 14 digs while Emmi Peltola and Kate Blankenship had 12 each. The Rebels balance might become their calling card this season. MCC will host Hills Beaver Creek Patriots on Thursday in the Rebels homecoming game.
