The Murray County Central Rebels started their second to last week of the volleyball season with their only game of the week Tuesday night. The Rebels played host to the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons. The Dragons were one game ahead of the Rebels in the Red Rock Conference making the game very big not only for the conference standings but for the upcoming playoffs. The Rebels have not found a way to beat the Dragons through some close games over the last 5 years, and did not find a way on Tuesday.
The Rebels started out slowly against the Dragons, but much like many of the games this season against the better teams, MCC followed a pattern - they fall behind early, rally back over the middle to late portion of the set, just to lose in a close score in the end. Sets one and two followed that pattern, with MCC struggling to stay in the game.
The Dragons took games 1 and 2 with the same score in both games 25 to 21. Suttyn Schryvers was a strong player on the court for the Rebels as she finished with 16 kills. The Dragons played a solid game led by Kamry Lehnhoff, Brylee Zebe, and Audrina Tiesler. The Dragons were not flashy but they played really solid in every way. When the Rebels made a mistake the Dragons capitalized. The Rebels led almost the entire third game leading by as many as six points, but the Dragons finished the match strong, winning the third set 25 to 23.
The Rebels are now 4-4 in the Red Rock Conference while the Dragons are now 6 and 2. The Rebels are 11-9 on the season overall after the loss on Tuesday and going 3-2 in Marshall at the Jimmy Johns Classic. The Rebels will finish their regular season next week with a home game against RRC on Monday and a road game at Pipestone Area on Thursday.
