Thursday night the MCC Rebels played their final regular season home game. MCC saluted their parents and seniors before the game. The Rebels would salute their fans with their best all around game of the season. MCC played host to the RTR Knights and showed big play ability on both sides of the football as the Rebels picked up their fifth win of the season.

The first quarter saw RTR take the football and drive into MCC territory, but as they looked to pick up a first down, they fumbled. Noah Mathiowetz recovered the fumble and MCC began to drive. With a pair of strong runs by Gavin Gillette, the Rebels drove into RTR territory. Andrew Holm would score on a 36 yard run down the RTR sideline. MCC converted for two points to take a 8-0 lead with 8:09 to play in the first quarter. RTR once again drove inside the Rebel fifty yard line. This time, as they got into the red zone, the Rebels got a sack and the Knights were forced to go for a 4th and 19, which was incomplete. The Rebels scored a few plays later on a Teague Meyer 49 yard touchdown run. The extra point made the score 15 to 0 with 1:59 to play in the quarter. RTR fumbled on their next drive, giving MCC the ball on the RTR side of the 50. Carson Lewis scored just over a minute into the second quarter with 10:28 to play. The Rebels led 22-0. From that point on, the Rebels defense settled down and RTR struggled to move the ball at all. MCC would add two more first half touchdowns. Teague Meyer scored on a one yard run and just before half, he threw a 16 yard touchdown pass to Krew Schneider and the Rebels led 35-0 at the half.

The second half would not get closer. RTR continued to struggle to move the ball, plus they turned the ball over two more times. The Rebel offense slowed down some as the RTR defense did a better job of tackling. MCC did score on a Gavin Gillette 10 yard run and Hudson Schryvers scored on a 4 yard run late in the third quarter. The Rebels led 48-0 after the third quarter. The JV were able to get playing time late in the third quarter and into the 4th quarter. One of the highlights for the JV was Dylan Gilbertson’s interception off the RTR starting offense. The JV would fail to score a point but any extra time they can play in a varsity game, let alone another entire quarter, is a great experience for the young kids.

The Rebels outgained the Knights 420 yards to 125. MCC’s defense forced 4 turnovers while the offense gave it away once. The Rebel defense didn’t allow the Knights to convert a first down on a third down in the entire game which is impressive, as the Knights were just 2 for 5 on 4th down. The Rebels, on the other hand were 4 for 8 on third downs and 1 for 1 on 4th down plays. What is also impressive is that the Rebels did that much scoring with not many third down plays, putting up big plays on 1st and 2nd downs. The Rebels were led by Carson Lewis with 24 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Holm had 8 carries for 113 yards and a score. Gavin Gillette also had 8 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown. Teague Meyer ran just two times for 50 yards. Both runs were touchdowns. Hudson Schryvers ran 3 times for 9 yards and a touchdown. Krew Schneider had the only catch in the game for the Rebel offense but it was for a 16 yard score. The Rebels will end the regular season on Tuesday in Wabasso.
