May 7 MCC at Pipestone

The MCC Rebel Baseball team continued their terrific season on Thursday when they played the Pipestone Arrows in a non-conference matchup. The Rebels travelled to play the Arrows in hopes of adding to this season’s win total. With a win already in their pocket during the week the Rebels would look to add another.

The Rebels offense came alive early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Teague Meyer led off the game with a double and scored on a Tristan Behrends single. Krew Schneider doubled with one out, scoring Behrends as the Rebels took the lead. The Rebels opened the game up in the top of the third as they rallied with 5 runs. The Rebels used a walk, a hit by pitch, and a single to load the bases with one out. Cayden Veldhuisen singled in the first run of the inning. A walk scored a second run and a two-out double by Carter Hanson plated two. The Rebels led 7-0 at that point and added another run in three of the last four innining to score ten runs.

Defensively, the Rebels played their best game of the season, making several good plays and not committing an error in the game. Dugan Kluis went the distance allowing three hits and striking out 9 while not walking a batter. It was a strong all around performance by the Rebels as they picked up the win 10-0.

Teague Meyer and Carson Lewis led the Rebels at the plate with three hits each. Both players had doubles in the game and Lewis added a triple. Tristan Behrends, Krew Schneider, and Carter Hanson collected two hits each. Hanson led the Rebels with 3 RBI’s while Behrends drove in two. The Rebels would finish the week on Friday when they would travel to Mountain Lake Area Comfrey.

May 8 MCC at MLA/C

The Murray County Central Rebel baseball team continued their undefeated season on Friday when they went up against the Wolverines of Mountain Lake Area Comfrey. Its hard to say what has been better this year for the Rebels - the hitting or the pitching.

The Rebels would take it to the Wolverines in the first three innings. Teague Meyer reached first base on an error and then would score on a passed ball taking the lead 1-0. With one out the Rebels got a single from Dugan Kluis who then stole second base. Krew Schneider reached on an error in left field, scoring the runner from second base. Carson Lewis singled in Schneider and later scored on another error by the Wolverines defense. MCC would lead 4-0. The Rebels added a run in the second inning. Seven runs scored in the top of the 3rd, the Rebels were ahead 11-0 and they wouldn’t look back.

Krew Schneider made the start for the Rebels on the mound and the junior pitched well. Schneider threw four and two thirds innings striking out 11 hitters and allowing 2 hits and 2 walks. With the 14 potential outs Schneider could record, he struck out 11. Tristan Behrends pitched the final third of an inning, picking up a strikeout. The Wolverines offense got four base runners in the game. The Rebels for the second straight game did not commit an error as MCC would win 13-0.

The Rebels took advantage of the Wolverines 7 errors in the game. Dugan Kluis was the only Rebel with more than one hit as he had two. Alex Heard had double in the game for the Rebels that plated 3 runs to lead the Rebels in RBI’s. Cayden Veldhuisen drove in two runs in the game. The Rebels will be back in action on Monday at Dawson Boyd and Tuesday at home against Edgerton.

May 11 MCC at Dawson-Boyd

The Murray County Central Rebel Baseball team was on the road Monday in Dawson, taking on the Blackjacks of Dawson Boyd who are one of the top teams in the North half of Section 3A. It was a great opportunity for two of the top teams in the Section to square off before the playoffs. The Rebels were 13-0 entering the day while the Blackjacks were 8-4. After some extra innings the Rebels would stay undefeated.

Teague Meyer got the start for the Rebels and the Senior threw a strong game. Meyer pitched the first six innings of the contest and would allow three runs - one each in the second, third, and fifth inning. Meyer allowed five hits and he walked one, but just two of the runs were earned. Krew Schneider entered the game in the seventh inning and pitched the final three innings, picking up the win.

The Rebels trailed for one of the first times this season as MCC did not score until the fourth inning. The Rebels scored when Dugan Kluis walked and scored on a Krew Schneider single and a errant throw that allowed Schneider to advance to third. Carson Lewis singled to left field to tie the game at 2. The Rebels trailed 3-2 in the top of the seventh. Gabe Tentinger opened the inning with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Carter Hanson brought him in on a sacrafice fly to the outfield. The game would remain tied until the 9th inning when Tristan Behrends reached base on an error and Krew Schneider connected on a long home run to give the Rebels a 5-3 lead. MCC would get the win as they would hold on for the victory.

Krew Schneider picked up the win in relief pitching the final three innings, striking out 6 and walking 1 without allowing a run. Teague Meyer struck out 11 Blackjacks in his first six innings of work. Krew Schneider led the Rebels with two hits and 3 rbi’s. Carson Lewis, Danny Larson, and Dugan Kluis had a pair of hits for the Rebels. MCC would play Edgerton/SWC on Tuesday in their next attempt to stay undefeated.

May 12 Edgerton/SWC at MCC

The MCC Baseball team played a thrilling game on Monday that went 9 innings. Tuesday the Rebels were at home and hosted Edgerton/SWC, taking care of business early.

Teague Meyer opened the game for the Rebels with a single and then stole second base. Tristan Behrends delivered a single to right field to plate the first run of the game. Krew Schneider doubled to center field, scoring Behrends and putting the Rebels ahead by 2. The final run of the inning was scored on an error on a pop fly from Cayden Veldhuisen. The Rebels blew the game open in the second inning. Carter Hanson singled to open the inning and Teague Meyer hit a home run over the left field fence. Three straight hits put the Rebels ahead 7-0 and the runs kept coming. Tristan Behrends singled with the bases loaded and a mishandled throw allowed all three runners to score. MCC would plate nine runs in the second inning. The Rebels would not score another run.

The Rebels took a couple innings to get everyone on the bench into the game. While that was happening, Dugan Kluis would throw three strong innings. Kluis did not walk a batter and struck out 6 without allowing a hit. The Rebels had a big lead so Tristan Behrends entered the game and threw two strong innings, striking out 4 of the 6 hitters without allowing a base hit. The game ended in a MCC 12-0 victory, and Kluis and Behrends would complete a combined no-hitter. The Rebels were led at the plate by Teague Meyer, Tristan Behrends and Krew Schneider. Meyer was 2 for 3 hitting with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Tristan Behrends would go 3 for 3 at the plate with 4 RBI’s. Krew Schneider would add two hits and 2 RBI’s. It was a solid win for the Rebels who remain one of the top teams in the Section 3A standings. The Rebels will be back on the road on Thursday as they head to Adrian to take on the Dragons.
