REBEL BOYS WIN WORTHINGTON INVITE
A full slate of southwest Minnesota teams gathered Thursday for the Worthington Invite, with athletes from Adrian/ Ellsworth, Canby/Minneota, Hills-Beaver Creek, Fulda/HLO, Jackson County Central, Luverne, Murray County Central, Pipestone Area, Southwest Minnesota Christian, Tracy-Milroy- Balaton, Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Windom Area, and host Worthington competing in a highly competitive meet.
The Murray County Central (MCC) Rebels turned in a strong all-around performance, highlighted by multiple topeight finishes, relay success, several personal-best efforts, and the team championship from the MCC boys.
Boys Sprints & Hurdles The Rebels found success on the track, particularly in the relay events. The MCC boys 4x100 “A” relay team of Caleb Rosenbrook, Lucas Kuball, Parker Olson, and Alexander Betz placed second in 46.36. The 4x200 “A” relay (Kolten Nielsen, Parker Olson, Brayden Gilb, Lucas Kuball) also earned a runner-up finish in 1:38.41, while the 4x400 relay team (Brayden Gilb, Alexander Betz, Beckett Stelter, Lucas Kuball) added another second-place finish in 3:41.05. The 4x800 relay (Gilb, Stelter, Henry Carlson, Betz) capped the relay success with a second-place finish in 8:39.93.
Individually, Parker Olson turned in a strong day in the hurdles, placing fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal- best 17.42. Olson also added a second-place finish in the long jump (19’2”), contributing significantly to the Rebels’ point total.
Dylan Gilbertson placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-best 47.56 and later added a ninth-place finish in the 200 meters (25.89 PB). Tyler Reith also scored in the 300 hurdles, finishing sixth (49.74), and placed sixth in the 110 hurdles with a personal-best 18.12.
Boys Distance Events
In the distance races, MCC had a standout showing in the 3200 meters. Micah Janssen led the way with a runner-up finish in 11:44.31 (PB), followed by Carter Larson in third (12:00.29) and Connor Pieske in fifth with a personal-best 12:16.75.
Boys Field Events The Rebels excelled in the field events, particularly in the jumps and throws. Lucas Kuball captured the long jump title with a leap of 19’4”, while Parker Olson finished second, giving MCC a dominant 1-2 finish.
In the triple jump, Dylan Gilbertson placed third (39’5.75”), and Brett Pieske added a sixthplace finish (36’0.5”).
In the throws, Broox Platt earned fifth in the shot put (43’6”), while Gabriel Wolske added an 11th-place finish. Wolske had a standout performance in discus, placing second with a throw of 132’9.25”, and Platt followed with a thirdplace finish (121’10.25”).
In the high jump, Wyatt Thompson cleared a personal- best 5’6” to tie for fifth place.
Pole vault saw Luke Iverson finish fifth (9’6”), with Caleb Rosenbrook also placing seventh at the same height.
Girls Performances
On the girls’ side, MCC saw contributions from Isabela Schreier, who placed sixth in the 400 meters (1:05.58), and Kora Kremer, who tied for third in the pole vault (6’0”). In the 200 meters, Schreier placed 17th, while Kremer added a 28thplace finish.
In the field events, Antonina Godlewska competed in the shot put and discus, while the Rebels also had representation across sprint and distance events.
REBELS BOYS CAPTURE TEAM TITLE AT BOB NANGLE RELAYS; GIRLS GAIN VALUABLE EXPERIENCE
The Murray County Central boys track and field team turned in a dominant performance at the Bob Nangle Invitational in Pipestone, claiming the team championship with 123.5 points and finishing well ahead of a competitive field. The young Rebel girls also competed hard, finishing in a tie for seventh place with 27 points.
The meet featured a strong field of area teams, including SW MN Christian/Edgerton, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, Worthington, Hills-Beaver Creek, Luverne, Jackson County Central, Canby/Minneota, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (TMB), Pipestone Area, Adrian/ Ellsworth, Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central, and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
The Rebel boys used depth and consistency across all events to separate themselves from the competition. SW MN Christian/Edgerton placed second with 89.5 points, followed by Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (83) and Worthington (82).
Senior Lucas Kuball led the way for the Rebels, turning in a standout all-around performance. Kuball placed third in the 100 meters (11.61), third in the 200 meters (24.00), and third in the 400 meters (53.09). He also captured an individual title in the long jump with a leap of 19’ 9.25”.
The Rebels showed strength in the distance events as well. Alexander Betz placed third in the 800 meters (2:08.98) and fourth in the 1600 meters (4:57.68). Micah Janssen added a fourth-place finish in the 3200 meters (11:41.85) and fifth in the 1600, while Carter Larson and Wesley Hause also scored in the 3200 with sixthand seventh-place finishes.
Murray County Central’s 4x800 relay team of Brayden Gilb, Beckett Stelter, Carter Larson, and Henry Carlson claimed a meet championship, winning in 9:08.04. The 4x400 relay team (Stelter, Gilb, Carlson, and Betz) added a strong third-place finish, while the 4x200 relay team (Henry Carlson, Dylan Gilbertson, Luke Iverson, Kolten Nielsen) took fifth.
In the hurdles, Parker Olson placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (45.31) and added a seventh-place finish in the 110 hurdles. Olson also contributed in the jumps, finishing fourth in the long jump.
The Rebels were particularly strong in the jumping events. In addition to Kuball’s win and Olson’s fourth place and Kolten Nielsen finished sixth in the long jump. Dylan Gilbertson earned runner-up honors in the triple jump (38’ 10”), with teammate Brett Pieske finishing sixth.
In the field events, Broox Platt placed fourth in the shot put (41’ 3”) and sixth in the discus (119’ 0”), while Gabriel Wolske took fourth in the discus (122’ 3”) and ninth in the shot put.
The Rebels received key contributions from across the roster and multiple top-eight finishes that helped secure the team title.
On the girls’ side, Murray County Central was led by several young athletes who continue to gain experience as the season progresses.
Charley Holm had a strong day, placing seventh in the 100 meters (13.65) and finishing third in the pole vault (7’ 0”). Holm also added a fourth-place finish in the long jump.
Isabela Schreier turned in a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (1:06.49), while distance runner Ainsley Pieske placed ninth in the 1600 meters. Holland Vogel added a 10th-place finish in the 3200.
The Rebels’ 4x400 relay team of Kenslee Bobeldyk, Schreier, Cassie Scandrett, and Holm placed fourth, while the 4x200 relay (Bobeldyk, Kora Kramer, Alaina Bonnstetter, and Madi Stelter) added a ninth-place finish.
In the field events, Olivia Heard led the way with a seventh- place finish in the discus and 21st in the shot put, while Antonina Godlewska also competed in both throwing events.
The girls also saw a pair of top-five finishes in the pole vault, with Holm taking third and Kora Kremer finishing fifth.
With the boys claiming the team championship and the girls continuing to develop, Murray County Central showed both depth and promise as the season moves forward. The Rebels’ next action will be the section True Team meet held in Pipestone on Monday, May 4th.
