John Meyer spotted this Model T about 5 years ago at the Engelkes Thrashing Bee. He remembers when he drove one as a kid back and forth to country school during WW2. Last fall he had the opportunity to buy this gem of a vehicle from Lee “Kraut” Lucker. Over the winter months, thanks to many local hands (Jim Gillette, Tom Carlson and Leroy Prahm) he was able to update the vehicle, doing an overhaul with new brakes, starter and canvas windows for the sides.
What John said was unique about this Model T was it didn’t have the wood wheels and wood coils. It had Model A spoke wheels and distributor and coils. It also has 3 pedals so you have low, high and reverse. No clutch so driving it takes some practice.
You’ll see on the side it says Meyer Dray Service. When asked John explained that a Dray man is what they called men who hauled freight from the depots to the retail stores back when he was young. His father had a lumber & hardware store and John would haul stuff for him.
John and his friend Marilyn Robillard enjoy a sunny day going for a drive. If you see them out and about -- give them a wave!
