GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark The neighborhood news this week is that the first sweet corn is garden ready. If you don’t have any yet, try stopping at Farmers’ Market. The area supermarkets say they will have some locally grown when they can. These will be the smaller ears now with larger ones coming. Farmers might remember when we talked about a very large corn ear (Silo corn) in September which much have been about four inches in diameter and only one fed our family for at least one meal. Otherwise our gardening now consists of hoeing, weeding, and watching the produce grow.

Another item - with all the rain watch for puddles which breed mosquitoes. Other insects flying and otherwise usually appear in large numbers about now too.

Fortunately it has not been too hot - yet. Our usual hot days come in August. We shall see this year. And then there’s the lawn mowing and other yard work. Done between rain showers of course.

Just hope we don’t get hail or a tornado or two. Be sure to care for your house plants too. Until next week.
