GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark By the time this column arrives for you readers the Murray County Fair will be over. This writer can remember quite a few times at the end of the fair what we got accomplished and where things went wrong.

In some cases, the vegetable exhibits we had went on the dinner table as part of the meal. Then there was the fair prize check which got cashed and used for something or other.

And then we have the memories of what we saw at the Fair. Rain was forecast for this year’s fair. We can remember a few times in the past when the fair got rained on. In one case it started raining. The fair rides quickly shut down and let the riders off. And everybody headed for inside a building to wait out the rain. It made the Fair quite memorable in several ways. People dashed inside, but some exhibits were outside and we never found out where their operators went or what happened. And then the rides were wet too. And needing at least a wipe off before restarting. Quite memorable.

And then back to our home, yard, and gardening. Always enough needing to be done there. And inside we did some canning too and then watering our house plants.

That kept us busy until next week.
