By Arnold Krusemark In last week’s column we discussed fertilizer and insect sprays. Some insects are beneficial and necessary and some pests. The common honey bee is a needed insect. They pollinate our flowers and produce honey.
In a past column we mentioned that there are rent-a-bee businesses who have the bee hives and haul them to the west coast so they can pollinate fruit trees. This makes Pacific apples (and other fruit) pollinated and then honey produced hauled back to Minnesota for sale. Two crops at once.
Another beneficial insect is the lady bug. Orange with black spots. They eat other insects the aphids. Aphids are pests and will suck garden plants dry if they can.
Back inside the house be sure to water your house plants - even if its raining outside.
Until next week.
