Carson Klein -215- 2nd Place
The Fulda/Murray County Central Warriors in their second week of competition took part in a triangular against the Red Rock Central Falcons and the Pipestone Arrows as well as the Pizza Ranch invitational in Jackson and fared very well.
First up were the RRC Falcons and coming out of the stable for the Warriors was the young 9th grader Dane Hanson at 107 going up against senior Keagan Steen. Steen wasted no time scoring a fall against Hanson in the first period.
The 114 bout brought another 9th grader Luke sweetman against Bryon Marsh. Sweetman was the first to score catching a single leg and tripping Marsh to his back. After a caution Marsh scored on an escape and Sweetman went back to work. This time Marsh got in on a single leg, but Sweetman countered with a standing crossface which put Marsh on his heels and as Marsh went back Sweetman put his leg down and secured a headlock on Marsh and pinned him on the edge of the mat.
Tied 6-6 going into the 121 bout Elijah Conway in his Varsity debut Drew Izzy Chmelar and pinned her with a nasty headlock for the 6. 127 brought 8th grader Adam Iverson and Noah Schunk. Iverson has a soft, quiet look for a wrestler calm looking as he walked to the mat. A Warrior inside he’s a powerful wrestler going into the third period after scoring two takedowns with the score tied 7-7 Schunk got a headlock and pinned Iverson tying the team score 12-12.
Hunter Reese 133, Truman Olsem 139, Brayden Gilb 145, Noah Mathiowetz152, and Alaric Wynia160 all scored 6 with forfeits. Bringing us to 172 where Jaxon Wendorff scored the first takedown against Jonah Skarupa with a perfectly executed blast double then working from behind on turns scored a 4 point nearfall skunked a half and scored the 6 with a reverse headlock making the team score 48-12.
After an open weight for each team at 189 Naykay Mya at 215 recieved a forfeit then at 285 the mighty Gabriel Wolske made his varsity debut against Dawson Mariner, and Wolske had his way with him scoring the first 3 point takedown with a snap down, head in the hole go behind and with a turn scored a 3 point nearfall and rode out the period. The second period Wolske piled on scoring on a huge double leg again riding out the period. the third period with both wrestlers starting neutral Wolske started working the headlock scoring two takedowns and a nearfall before getting Mariner to submit to the pin putting the Warriors up 6012.
Next up were the Pipestone Arrows who are very strong in the lower weights put Lane Fruechte(107) up against out Dane Hanson. Fruechte took Hansen into the third period before scoring the 5 point technical fall. Luke Sweetman was next against Carloseriel Perez-Garcia falling to a pin in the first period making the team score 11-0 going into the 121 bout bringing Kaston Clarke against Mason Fruechte. Fruechte was the first to strike with a 3 point takedown, but Clarke countered with a sit out escape. Clarke then got in on a leg and as the scramble progressed he worked to the side he worked to the side hooked a leg, flagged his arm and secured the takedown making the score 4-3 Clarke going into the 2nd period. The wrestlers traded takedown and escapes through tough scrambles in the second period and Clark fought off a tight crade as the period came to an end. Now down by one going into the third the scrambling progressed and this time Fruechte scored witha 3 point takedown finishing the match holding the Arrows to a 3 point decision.
The Warriors stayed open the the 127 bout forfeiting to Andres Guardado, bringing Hunter Reese up against the state champion Miklo Hernandez at 133. Hernandez put on a takedown clinic on Reese who handled it well losing by pinfall with 24 seconds left in the first period.
Next up was our Teague Meyer at 139 against Angel Garcia scoring 15 points on takedowns with an ankle pick and 4 single legs cutting Garcia after each trying to break him down. the second period slowed up a little as Meyer was looking for the pin before the tech. fall. The third period Meyer secured a cradle and Garcia defended it, but not until after Meyer secured a 4 point hold on the move gaining 5 team points for the technical fall.
145 brought us Brayden Gilb shooting between the legs of Troy Chaulsett coming out the back door swinging one leg over his head and swimming up to secure the three. Chaulsett scored an escape with a somersault putting the wrestlers back to neutral to finish the period. In the second Chaulsett chose down and Gilb capitalized stacking Chaulsett up on his shoulders scoring a 3 point nearfall and riding out the period. The third period Gilb chose down and despite being exhausted scored his escape only to be taken down again by Chaulsett. Gilb undeterred pushed on scoring another escape and stayed on top scoring two more takedown to one escape by Chaulsett to finish the match with a major decision 14-5.
After Noah Mathiowetz fell to Haden Mulvihill late in the second period at 152, Quintin Lewis at 160 Took Carlos Saenlouengraj to his back out of a short scramble and put him in three knuckleroll armbars scoring 8 nearfall points and a 3 point takedown. Lewis starting on top got in on another knuckle roll armbar and changing to a reverse half secured the pin putting up 6 for the Warriors.
172 Carson Lewis a 10th grader performed quite well against senior Lucas Thooft scoring a reversal in the second period sitting out and turning in. Thooft defended with an escape and a takedown putting the match into the third period. Starting neutral Thooft scored on a takedown and held Lewis to the mat scoring another 6 for the Arrows. Making the score 38 to 15.
After a forfeit to Isaiah Wolske at 189 Carson Klein and Xavier Banjoko came to the mat at 215. Banjoko got in on a leg in the first period and Klein defended with a whizzer and brought Banjoko to the mat, flagged his arm and got behind him securing the 3 point takedown. Starting on top in the 2nd period Klein worked his turns until he got Banjoko in a Witzel for a 4 point nearfall at the end of the period. Starting neutral in the third Banjoko started a fire in himself and took Klein down twice and pinned him closing the door for the warriors in this dual. After a forfeit to Colby Kesteloot at 285 the final score was 27-44 leaving lots of room for improvement in this warrior stable On Saturday the Warriors took part in the Pizza Ranch invitational tournament and performed remarkably well placing 5 wrestlers and taking 7th place out of 17 teams many of which were bigger schools in double a ranking.
