The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on September 2, 2025.
Commissioner Jackie Meier was absent from this meeting.
One item of business on the agenda was to approve the policy that governs attendance via telemedia. Representatives from Apex Clean Energy were on hand to address the development of the Box Car Wind Wind Project which will span both Lyon County and Murray County. Two hundred fifty five wind towers are planned for 2028-2030. One hundred forty acres have been leased for the project.
Murray County Medical Center CEO Luke Schryvers presented the report on July activities at the facility. The month is considered historically as a slow month. That was borne out with the lower statistics for most departments. That is expected to be the trend for at their services: Dr. Koenig on Orthopedics and Dr. Kamiltz from Windom in General Surgery. Ashley Haken has been hired as Clinic Manager. Schryvers thanked the Board for supporting the intern project for the summer. It is hoped that it will foster an interest in a return to MCMC following graduation of one or more of the students. The MCMC Foundation made a donation of guardian caps to the MCC football program following a request that was made. The caps will offer additional head protection to prevent concussions and head injuries.
Zoning Administrator Jean Christoffels requested approval to apply for a grant from Conservation Partners Legacy for funding to replace trees lost to Emerald Ash Borer on County land and parks. The $75,000 Grant will need to be matched at 10% by the County.
County Assessor Chad Benda requested approval of the 2025 Merged All Assessors Contract. There is a three year rotation. of townships and cities covered by his office. All of the entities have the option of hiring a private assessor or using county personnel.This year’s contr4act covers nine townships and five cities.
County Highway Engineer Randy Groves requestedc approval of a County Road Safety Plan that has not had updates since 2011. The plan identifies corrections that need to be made for safety. It also gives his department the needed information to access funds for those needs. He cited the Vahalla road project as a recipient of funds from that program.
County Administrator Carolyn McDonald requested permission for Sharon Giese, the new Human Resources Director to attend the two year Technical Program presented by AMC. It is a helpline to offer support, updates and comprehensive statewide support.
A Public Meeting was scheduled for September 16 to discuss the DNR Shotgun Zone proposal. The County can restrict the activity if it choses following the meeting.
