The Chandler American Legion Auxiliary met on Tuesday May, 21st with President Patsy Buys presiding. Geri Sankey gave the opening devotions. The Auxiliary sang the National Anthem, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, held a moment of silence in memory of the deceased members and repeated the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. The minutes and the Treasurer’s reports were read and approved.
A “thank you” was read from Kim Hause, Murray County 4-H director, for the donation the Auxiliary had given for 4-H students to visit Washington D.C.
Mavis Kruisselbrink read the past year’s history report.
An invitation was read about the 30th Anniversary Open House to be held at the Luverne Veteran’s Home on June 7.
Poppy Day was discussed. Some of Jennet Mollema’s family was planning to distribute poppies in Marshall.
Patsy, Faye Schuur and Mary and two students planned to distribute poppies in Chandler. Poppies were made soon after World War 1, a little over 100 years ago. These poppies were made commemorating our soldiers that have served in different wars. The Auxiliary would like to thank those that made generous donations in remembering our Veterans. The funds that were donated will be used for our Veterans and their families in many different ways in the coming year.
Patsy continued the meeting by reading about ways to be aware of storms that may be coming our way. Listen to storm warnings that are given over TV or the radio and try to plan a safe way for protection when a storm is predicted.
The Auxiliary and the Legion would like to thank those that participated in the Memorial Day programs. Thanks to the speaker, Brent Post, and to Greg and Madeline Vander Wal for the music. Also thank you to Rev. Seth Atsma for the invocation and for the closing prayer. A big thank you to those that attended.
With no further business, Geri gave the closing prayer and the Auxiliary sang “America.”
The Legion joined the Auxiliary for lunch served by Faye.
The next meeting is June 18 at 1:30pm at the Chandler Community Center.
Mary Van Eck is hostess.
