The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 Commissioner Malone was not present at the meeting.
Auditor-Treasurer Heidi Winter represented the AARP Committee in requesting the transfer of funds within the fund to allow the $10,000 purchase of key fobs for several doors within the government center. The action was recommended following a safety assessment of the facility. There are other doors that will be added later in the order they had been prioritized after the assessment. Another $15,000 of AARP funds will be used to create an office area for the IT Assistant. Of the total $1.59M in AARP funds there is a balance remaining to $304,000.
Parks Director Justin Hoffmann received the go ahead to pursue quotes for the remodel of the Bingo Stand on the fairgrounds. An additional eight feet will be added to the south end for storage and a cooler to be used for the Beer Garden during the fair and possibly the addition of other events.
Hoffmann also received approval for an improved Picnic Shelter on East Lake Sarah. A serving counter along with outlets for roasters and crock pots will be included in the new shelter. Work is to be scheduled for August 1 and completed by October 31.
Economic Development Coordinator Justine Wettschreck along with City of Slayton Administrator Josh Malchow and Operation Prairie Venture directors Luke Schryvers and Lynn Johnson requested and received approval of a $250,000 forgivable loan. This will bring the County’s support of a new Assisted Living/Memory Care facility to $500,000. This matches the commitment made by the City of Slayton and lends support to the OPV appeal to the legislature for bonding money for the $5M project. The facility will remain in the ownership of OPV with a management contract for the operating of it.
Sheriff Heath Landsman requested the purchase of eight WiFi charging bases for the recently purchased body cams. It was found that the current bases did not automatically begin recording on the cameras. $4360 of a Public Safety Grant received in December will be used for the purchase.
