In an effort to promote healthy aging and reduce fall risk among older adults, A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota is pleased to offer an upcoming A Matter of Balance class series in Slayton. This evidence-based program is designed to help participants build confidence, reduce fear of falling, and increase overall activity levels.
A Matter of Balance focuses on practical strategies to manage and prevent falls. Participants will learn to view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, and make changes to their environment to reduce fall risk factors.
Participants in the program can expect: • Practical Fall Prevention Strategies: Learn techniques to reduce the risk of falling and improve safety at home and in daily activities.
• Confidence Building: Gain confidence in mobility and reduce fear associated with falling.
• Goal Setting & Lifestyle Changes: Develop achievable goals to stay active and independent.
• Supportive Group Environment: Connect with others and share experiences in a welcoming setting.
“Our goal with A Matter of Balance is to empower older adults to feel more confident and stay active in their daily lives,” said Joyce Wiekeraad, Murray County Program Manager for A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota. “By addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of falls, participants can maintain their independence and improve their quality of life.”
The classes will be held Monday and Wednesday afternoons beginning April 27 through May 20, with each session starting at 1:30 p.m. Classes will take place at the A.C.E. of SW MN Office, 2989 Maple Rd, Slayton, MN. A total of 8 consecutive sessions will be offered.
