The MCC Rebel Football team played their second game of the season on the road this past Friday night against the Springfield Tigers. The Tigers have won section 3A the last three seasons and finished second in the state tournament the last three years. The last team to win the section was the MCC Rebels in 2021. A year ago, the Tigers beat the Rebels twice by 10 points each time, the last being in the section final. The Rebels were looking for some revenge. But with their starting quarterback out of action, the Rebels needed to just score their first points of the season first.

The Minnesota State Wrestling tournament held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul is truly an experience for the wrestling spectator, and the wrestlers themselves.

In a rematch of a seven point win for TMB in the regular season, the Sub-Section 3A South first round game did not disappoint as the #4 seeded Panthers took on the #5 seeded Murray County Central Rebels in an instant classic. The nerves were notable for the Rebels to start the game as indecision turned into fundamentally unsound play and odd turnovers, which led to TMB getting the first bucket of the game.

The FMCC Warriors had a very busy week with a Quad in Ortonville, a Tri in Luverne, and a 13 team tournament in Lamberton. In Ortonville, the Warriors took on the Border West Buccaneers, Sisseton, and Ortonville. In Luverne they had the TMB Panthers, and the Luverne Cardinals.

The Fulda/Murray County Central Warriors traveled to Owatonna in lieu of the Tri-Valley Wrestling tournament which got canceled due to weather. Owatonna is a different direction for the Warriors, and they got to see some new competition.

The MCC Rebels were back at home on Friday for their third game of the week. The Rebels had split their first two games, losing to Lakeview and then beating RRC. The Rebels defense has been strong this season but the ups and downs on offense have cost them several games this season. Friday would fall into that category for MCC as the Wolverines would avenge a loss to the Rebels from earlier this year.

The Murray County Central Rebels opened the Subsection playoffs this past Saturday in Worthington. The Rebels played the Hills Beaver Creek Patriots for the third time this season.

Junior high baseball teams from Murray County Central had successful spring seasons, offering promise that the school’s excellent tradition on the diamond will continue for years. The MCC 7th-grade team won 15 of 18 games, losing twice to teams from Marshall and once to Windom.

At the start of the 2022 track season, many athletes set goals of making the state meet. Although track implemented a third class for the first time this year, it had little effect on the smaller schools, as the AA schools were broken down into two classes. Class A (which MCC is a part of) remains the largest class in the state comprising of 192 teams. Each individual event has the possibility of 576 student athletes vying for one of the sixteen state qualifying spots. MCC had three girls (Brylei Schreier - 400, Ashley Overgaauw - 800, Amanda Overgaauw - 3200) that had earned one of those spots. That trio was joined by Sophia Nelson for the 4x800 relay to give the team a total of four events participating in the 2022 State Track and Field meet.
