In 2020, the MCC coaching staff thought it would be fun to put on a true “relay” meet where all events are based on team performance.

Unfortunately, that season was canceled and the 2021 season had many restrictions. After rescheduling due to weather, their vision became a reality. While still having the traditional 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800 relays this meet included many seldom ran running events. Those events include the sprint medley relay (200-200-400-800), distance medley (400-400-800-1600), Rudy relay (100-200-300-400) and a co-ed hurdle shuttle relay.

Of the eight running relays, the MCC girls were champions in three of them. Sophia Nelson, Ashley Overguaaw, Megan Bakke, and Amanda Overguaaw ran a solid time in the 4x800 to start the meet off, winning it in dominating fashion. The Overguaaws were joined by Ryanna Schreier and Abby Overman in the distance medley relay. Schreier and Overman each ran a 400 to start off the race and were neck and neck with a couple of the other teams. Amanda ran the third leg of the relay (800m) and was able to create a comfortable lead over the second place team. Ashley, running 1600 portion of the relay, kept increasing the gap on their way to a minute and a half victory. Brailynn Breberg (100), Chelby Kesteloot (200), Ryanna Schreier (300) and Brylei Schreier (400) were the third team to be crowned champions. In a close and exciting race, Brylei had a tremendous anchor leg to pass two teams down the front stretch.

The 4x200 team of Chelby Kesteloot, Abby Overman, Courtney Gengler and Brealyn Damm were runners up while the 4x4 (Brealyn Damm, Megan Bakke, Lily Daniels Allie Paulzine) and sprint medley (Ryanna Schreier, Brailynn Breberg, Brylei Schreier and Quinti Parra-Mendez) teams finished third.

On the boys side, the 4x200 team of Logan Steinle, Brock Smith, Ryan Risacher and Rylan Engelkes had the highest place finish with a runner up performance. Steinle was joined by Luk Havermeier, Thomas Huso and Caleb Rosenbrook in the 4x100, placing 3rd. Havermeier (100) and Huso (200) teamed up with Ashton Kalas (300) and Wyatt Biren (400) in the 3rd place Rudy relay team.

In the lone co-ed event, hurdle shuttle, the MCC team of Lindsey Hause, Ben Ahlers, Lily Daniels, and Ashton Kalas were runners up.

Each school was allowed to enter two competitors per field event. The best mark for each team member was added together giving the team their final score (teams are placed by the combination of marks, no individual places).

On the girls side Erica Doeden and Cassidy Johnson combined to place third in the discus while jumpers Brealyn Damm and Quinti Parra-Mendez had the finish in the long jump.

Boys field event teams placing in the top three included: Caleb Rosenbrook and Carson Engelkes (2nd - pole vault), Ashton Kalas and Brock Smith (3rd - long jump), Griffin Braun and Ryan Risacher (3rd - triple jump) and Carter Knakmuhs and Rylan Engelkes (3rd - high jump).
