The MCC Rebels had won two straight games heading into their non-conference matchup with the Lakeview Lakers on Tuesday afternoon. The Rebels traveled to Cottonwood to take on the Lakers. The Rebels would extend their winning streak scoring runs and playing some strong defense in a dominating performance.
The Rebels jumped out to the quick lead in the first inning as the first two hitters in the order walked, Thea Schneider hit a single, which was followed by a Mary Lou McNab single that scored the Rebels’ first run of the game. Morgan Winter would reach on an error at second base which allowed two runs to score. The Rebels would get their 4th run of the game on a ground out to first by Karli Heezen. MCC was up 4-0 after one inning. The Rebels didn’t slow down scoring three more runs in the second inning. With one out Sophie Larson doubled to short right field, Thea Schneider would double as well but Larson was held at third. Mary Lou McNab was walked to load the bases and Morgan tripled down the rightfield line to score all three baserunners. In the 4th inning, the Rebels would add to their total a walk to Larson was followed by an error to put Schneider on first. Mary Lou McNab would double to right field plating Larson. Zoey Iverson would also hit a double to right field which would score Peltola who was running for Schneider. Karli Heezen would single to drive in two more runs and the Rebels led 11-0 after 4 innings. In the 5th the Rebels would get at-bats for the rest of the roster Emmi Peltola would single, Bridgette Herrig would single to left and would advance to second on a poor throw. Grace Williams would ground out to first base and Peltola would score. Mary Lou McNab would triple off the wall in right-center field to plate Herrig. Zoey Iverson singled in McNab for the last run for the Rebels who scored 14 runs in the game.
The Rebels in the field did a great job overall. Thea Schneider did a great job pitching. In her five innings, she struck out a season-high 11 hitters while walking four and allowing just two hits. Facing a team that was willing to take pitches can be tough because they make you throw strikes and Schneider did that. The Rebels in the field did commit a pair of errors the first one didn’t result in a run but the second allowed the only run to score for the Lakers. The Rebels were able to take the win 14-1.
The Rebels as a team had 14 runs on 14 hits. MCC took advantage of the deep outfield for four doubles and had two triples as well. Mary Lou McNab led the Rebels with three hits including a double and a triple while driving in three runs. Zoey Iverson went three for three at the plate with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Morgan Winter had a triple and 4 RBIs while Heezen added one hit and three RBIs on the day. The Rebels would finish the week at home against Adrian Ellsworth on Thursday.
