The boys and girls track teams traveled to Luverne for the 3A Southwest Subsection Track meet. Schools competing in this subsection included: Adrian /Ellsworth, HBC, Luverne, MCC, Pipestone, RTR, SWC/Edgerton, and TMB. The top four finishers in each event would automatically qualify for the section meet. Each event also has four “wildcard” spots that are awarded to the next four best performances out of the three subsections that make up the 3A section. By the end of the night, some athletes’ seasons would continue on while others would see theirs come to end.

On the boys’ side, ten events placed in the top eight at the subsection meet. Brock Smith would place 7th in the 100 and 5th in the 200 but unfortunately would not advance to the section meet. Logan Steinle also ran the 200 and placed 7th. Senior Ryan Risacher, who joined track for the first time since his freshman year, had an all around good day qualifying for the section meet in two events. He placed 4th in the 110 hurdles and 2nd in the 300 hurdles. In the field events, Dylan Doeden had a great throw in the discus to place 6th. His performance would earn himself a wildcard spot for the section meet. Newcomers Carson Engelkes and Caleb Rosenbrook placed 6th and 8th in the pole vault but did not qualify for the section meet. The 4x400 relay of Carson Engelkes, Alex Betz, Hudson Schryvers, and Rylan Engelkes and the 4x800 relay team of Hudson Schryvers, Alex Betz, Wesley Hause, and Wy-att Biren each placed 6th and earned at wildcard spot for the section meet.

The Rebel girls would place 15 events in the top eight of subsections. Subsection champions would include Brylei Schreier in the 400 and Amanda Overgaauw in the 2 mile. Three MCC runners would finish in the top six of the 800, with Ashley Overgaauw placing 2nd, Sophia Nelson 4th, and Megan Bakke 6th. All three runners would qualify for the section meet. Ryanna Schreier and Brailyn Breberg placed 4th and 5th in the 100, with Schreier advancing automatically and Breberg through the wildcard. Ryanna would also place 7th in the 200. Three girls would place in the field events. Lindsey Hause was 4th in the high jump while Carlye Larson was 6th in the pole vault. Both of them would advance to the section meet. Brealyn Damm was 8th in the long jump.

All four the girls’ relays teams were able to advance to section meet. Subsection runners up were the 4x400 relay (Brylei, Megan, Ashley, Amanda) and the 4x800 relay (Brylei, Sophia, Ashley, Amanda). The 4x100 relay of Chelby Kesteloot, Brailyn Breberg, Courtney Gengler and Ryanna Schreier placed 4th while the 4x200 relay of Chelby Kesteloot, Brealyn Damm, Courtney Gengler, and Abby Overman placed 6th.
