REBELS LOSE TO SWC

The C and B squads would be in for tight contests Thursday night against SWC. Unfortunately, both teams would lose by 4 points in hard fought games. C-squad lost 36-40 and the b-squad lost in a high scoring ball game 59-55. The C-team was led by Gavin Gillette who scored 21 points and Hudson Schryvers who connected on 11 and the B-team was led by Bryce Hoekman’s 20 points and Ross Englekes’ 21. Carter Lewis added another 8 and Dylan Kramer and Owen Gillette each connected on a three.

The varsity was in for a tough night after a slow start. Too many live ball turnovers against an athletic and long SWC team would lead to multiple lay-ups for the Eagles. Accompany that with a tough night shooting for the Rebels and you have a 75-46 outcome.

SWC forced MCC to play a little faster than they wanted too which led to a season high 26 turnovers by the Rebels. This is something the Eagles feed off of, turning turnovers into points at a very high rate. Going into the half SWC had put up 38 points to the Rebels 21.

Leading the way for the Rebels in the first half was Chant Mitchell with 6 points and Aidan Dierks with 5. Christian Tentinger and Nate Kleven each had 4, while Abe Paulzine added 2.

The second half would look somewhat similar to the first half as SWC would score another 37. But MCC was aggressive and would find themselves at the free throw line often. Shooting 19 second half free throws gives you a chance to cut a lead with the clock stopped. The Rebels made 12 of those 19, but didn’t have enough fire power to go along with it. A better second half overall scoring 25 points as a team, but the steady play of the Eagles was too much to overcome on this night.
