REBELS ADVANCING TO STATE

After a section day one postponement, the Rebels finally got to play last week. Day one took place on Wednesday and day two on Friday. On the boys side, 11 teams as well as a large group of individuals participated in day one. For the girls, only 5 teams participated with again a large group of individual girls. In the 3A meet the top four teams and top twenty-five percent of remaining individuals qualify for the second and final day of the tournament. Both of MCC’s squads had a goal in mind, advancing as a team to day two. The girls were able to advance on as a team, but the boys team came up short. MCC’s McKade Gillette advanced to the second day of competition for the boys.

MCC’s girls started out day two in 1st place with a small lead. They rounded out the meet carding a team total of 867 for the two days of play, well ahead of their closest competition. Adrian/Ellsworth finished in 2nd with an 883, HLOF/WWG 893, and RTR was incomplete. The boys also shot well with a 418, but it wasn’t enough to advance them as a team for the second day. On the boys side Lakeview finished in 1st with a 668, Minneota in 2nd with a 736, HLOF/WWG in 3rd with a 742, and Adrian/Ellsworth in 4th with a 745.

Ciera Tutt played strong on day one, which put her in a good place for day two. Although she struggled a bit around the greens, she ended with a two day total of 196. With that score, Tutt was able to clinch the section runnerup medal. The rest of MCC’s girls team finished out the section meet strong as well. Ava Johnson scored a 217, Elie Meyer a 219, Rachael Huso a 235, Lizzie Daniels 258, and Symone Harms was incomplete. This will be the first trip to state for all the girls but Tutt. MCC’s girls team was last at state in 2019.

McKade Gillette represented well for the boys both days at sections. He went 98 day one and 98 day two for a total of 196. He finished within the middle of the pack for individuals, but had a positive outlook for next year. He’s excited to continue improving and hopes he can reach the state meet his senior year.

The top teams from the section for both boys and girls qualify for the class A state meet. Also the top five individuals not associated with the winning team go on to the state meet. State will take place at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker on June 14th & 15th, with a practice round on the 13th.

Coach Kim DeLong was named the Section 3A Girls Coach of the Year for the 2022 season. This will be Coach DeLong’s 11th trip to the state tournament with MCC golfers in her 12 years of coaching.
