MCC TRACK TEAM COMPETES IN CONFERENCE MEET

The 2022 Red Rock Conference Track meet was held in Mountain Lake on Thursday, May 19th. While the conference consists of nine schools, seven teams make up the conference in track, as a few of the schools (SWC/Edgerton and WWG/RRC) combine together for this spring sport.

On the track, the MCC girls were dominant as they captured four individual championships out of the eight individual running events. Amanda Overgaauw was a double winner (400 and 3200) as was her sister Ashley (800 and 1600). Amanda teamed up with Megan Bakke, Lily Daniels and Allie Paulzine in the 4x800 relay where they too were conference champions. The girls also had numerous all conference earners to go along with the individual champions. Sprinters Ryanna Schreier and Brailynn Breberg went 2-3 in the 100 meter dash and 4-6 in the 200. Sophia Nelson placed 3rd in the 800 and 4th in the 1600 on the day. Megan Bakke also ran the 800, placing 4th. Lily Daniels earned a 5th place finish with her run in the 3200. New hurdlers Lindsey Hause and Quinti Parra-Mendez are taking a strong understanding of the 300 hurdle race, placing 3rd and 4th in the conference. Mid distance runner-sprinter Brylei Scheier placed 2nd in the 400 while also being a member of the the 3rd place 4x200 team and 2nd place 4x400 team. In the 4x200 she was teamed with Chelby Kesteloot, Abby Overman, and Brealynn Damm. Other members of the 4x400 relay were Abby Overman, Lindsey Hause and Ashley Overgaauw.

In the girl’s field events, Brealyn Damm continues to impress in the long jump as she finished in 4th place. Lindsey Hause was 5th in the high jump and Cassidy Johnson was 6th in the discus. When all was said and done, the girls team had earned 142.5 points which placed them 2nd behind champion SWC/Edgerton (191.5). Rounding out the scoring was HBC (3rd -129), HLO-F (4th - 72.5), MLA-C (5th - 71) Adrian/ Ellsworth (6th - 47) and WWG/ RRC (7th - 35.5).

The Rebel boys placed 6th overall with 57 points. SWC/ Edgerton was also the boys team champion while Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey were the runners up. Adrian/Ellsworth edged out Hills Beaver-Creek for 3rd. Heron Lake-Okabena/ Fulda placed 5th and WWG/ RRC was 7th in the boys team standings.

Ryan Risacher was the lone Rebel boy to achieve conference champion honors as he won the 300 meter hurdle race in personal record time. Ryan also placed 3rd in the 110 hurdle race. Fellow hurdler Ashton Kalas was conference runner up in the 110 race and 4th in the 300. Brock Smith placed 8th in the open 200 while Rylan Engelkes also placed 8th in the open 800.

The boys 4x200 relay had a strong showing narrowly missing out on first, placing second in a very close race between three teams. Members of the relay include Brock Smith, Ryan Risacher, Logan Steinle and Thomas Huso. The other three relays, 4x100 (Jordan Sturges, Brock Smith, Ashton Kalas, Logan Steinle), 4x400 (Rylan Engelkes, Carson Engelkes, Thomas Huso, Logan Steinle) and 4x800 (Rylan Engelkes, Wesley Hause, Alex Betz, Wyatt Biren), all placed 5th.

In the field events, Dylan Doeden was 4th in the discus throw. Carter Knakmuhs and Rylan Engelkes tied for 8th as did Caleb Rosenbrook and Carson Engelkes in the pole vault.

The Rebels next action on the track will be on Thursday, May 26th, as they head to Luverne for the Section 3A - Southwest Sub-Section track and field meet.
