The MCC Rebels finished a busy week at home against the Eagles of Southwest Minnesota Christian. The Eagles are at the top of the Red Rock Conference again this season with a young roster that includes just a pair of seniors. The Eagles are a team that will give the Rebels problems because they are big and fast plus they like to pressure the ball all over the floor. The outcome of this game was decided early on.

The Rebels on Monday scored just 4 points against Mountain Lake Area Comfrey and on Saturday the Rebels scored four points early in the half but it would take some time to get the 5th point. Emily Rohrer and Zoey Iverson scored two points each and Abby Overman scored the Rebels final point on a free throw. MCC would turn the ball over 21 times in the first half and the Eagles would turn many into points. For a time the Rebels kept the pace where they wanted it but as the turnovers increased and the Eagles began to push the ball up the floor the Rebels were simply overwhelmed in every way. The Eagles would lead at the half 42-5.

The second half was played with a running clock and both teams started playing their entire rosters pretty early on. MCC scored just 8 more points in the game with Jessica Miller and Ella Gillete scoring 3 points each and Mary Lou McNab scoring 2. Ana Vledkamp scored 9 points on her own in the final 18 minutes. The Rebels would take another one-sided loss on the chin 66-13.

The Rebels just couldn’t match the Eagles talent in this game and the Eagles game plan is perfectly suited to beat a team like the Rebels. MCC’s record drops to 1-11 on the season as MCC has reached the halfway point of the season. The Rebels have two important games coming up this week as they will play at home against Heron Lake Okabena Fulda and Thursday on the road at Adrian Ellsworth. The Rebels have two chances to pick up victories this week but MCC will have to play much more as they did in the first half against Red Rock Central than some of their games this season.
