TOUGH MATCH FOR REBELS SEASON OPENER

MCC’s volleyball program was excited to open up their season against the Canby Lancers this past Thursday evening. The Rebels knew starting off the season with the Lancers would be a big challenge. However, getting back into a “normal” routine had the players, coaches and fans ecstatic for that first match.

The Rebels started off the first set a bit off step. They weren’t quite ready for the pace of play Canby brought to the court. The Lancers jumped out to a big lead despite MCC putting out great effort defensively. Towards the end of the set, the Rebels seemed to get into a groove. However, it was too late to bring them back into winning position and Canby took game one 12-25. Game two the Rebels started off with the serve and a better plan on how to tackle the Lancers dominant offense. MCC took an early lead with a few big plays from Emily Rohrer and aggressive serving. Canby fought their way back into the game with an offense that the Rebels just could not match. The Lancers and Rebels fought point for point, but in the end MCC fell 17-25. The third set started off with a lead for the Lancers due to receiving and digging errors by the Rebels. MCC continued to struggle receiving efficiently and executing offensively. The Rebels just could not match the pace of play the Lancers brought forth. MCC lost game three 7-25 and the match 0-3.

MCC will go out on the road for their next four matches. Tuesday they will head to Dawson-Boyd to play the Jackrabbits. Then Thursday the Rebels will travel to Luverne to play in a triangular against Luverne and West Lyon. Finally, they’ll wrap the week up on Friday at Russel-Tyler-Ruthton playing the Knights.
