VERNELL “MIKE” KUEHL

Mike Kuehl was born on January 31, 1934, on the family farm southwest of Westbrook, Minnesota to L. Arthur and Erma Christensen Kuehl. He grew up on the family farm and attended Country School District #108. On February 10, 1955, Mike enlisted in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge on February 8, 1957, he returned to the Westbrook area.

On August 25, 1962, he and Janice Paden were married at IHM Church in Currie, MN. Following their marriage, they farmed in Cottonwood County until 1967 when they purchased a farm southwest of Dovray, MN.

In his younger day’s Mike played fast pitch softball for the Des Moines River Rats. They remained on the farm until 1996 when they moved to Dovary. Mike continued farming until harvest of 2020 when he retired. He and Janice spent 21 years wintering in Harlingen, TX. Janice passed away on September 25, 2017. Mike moved to Maple Lawn Senior Care Campus in 2021. Due to failing health Mike moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton in May 2026 and passed away there on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the age of 92. He and Janice attended IHM Church in Currie, MN. Mike was a member of the Dovray American Legion Post serving as Commander. He served on the Dovray Township Board and the Dovray Fire Department. Mike enjoyed visiting with family and friends, golfing, and traveling.

Survivors include his five children and their spouses, Jackie and Todd Rogers of Reading, MN, Kevin Kuehl of Currie, MN, Lori and Jim Henning of Worthington, MN, Maury and Chris Kuehl of Avoca, MN, and Nick and Kris Kuehl of Fergus Falls, MN, 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Stuart and Nina Rogers, Blake and Elissa Rogers, Molly Kuehl, Kadin Kuehl, Lucas Henning, Brooke Henning, Kyle Kuehl, Nathan Kuehl, Neil Kuehl, Quintin Kuehl, and Reece Kuehl seven great-grandchildren and three siblings, Darlene Jarmer of Dundee, MN, Rosemary Lewis of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Gloria and Pete Doyle of Centerview, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings and their spouses, LaVonne and Merle Hamilton, Ardith and Bruce Dostert, Elwayne “Bud” and Fay Kuehl, and Douglas and Dorothy Kuehl, and one brother-in-law, Vernon Jarmer.

Funeral Services were at IHM Church in Currie, MN on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Antony Arokiyam officiating. The organist is Patty LeClaire. The song leader was Matt Kopperud. The pallbearers were his grandchildren. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Currie, MN. Military honors accorded by the Dovray American Legion Post.

Visitation was on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the IHM Church in Currie, MN from 4-6 and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
