Roger Hamann was born on January 16, 1948, in Luverne, Minnesota to Virgil and Marian Hunstad Hamann. He grew up on the family farm near Hardwick, MN and attended Jasper High School. On April 12, 1967, he and Kari Gehrke were married in Luverne, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home in Luverne and raised their three daughters. He and Kari later divorced. Roger served with the Minnesota National Guard for several years. On July 27, 1995, he and Deanna Johnson Swenson were married in Slayton, MN. Roger drove over the road truck for many years until he and Deanna purchased Trail’s Edge General Store in rural Currie, MN. They owned and operated Trail’s Edge until 2021 when they sold the business. They both remained working helping the new owners with day-to-day operations. Roger passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton at the age of 78. He attended St. Ann’s Church in Slayton and was a member of the Currie American Legion Post. Roger enjoyed racing, fishing, visiting on the patio on Wednesday nights with family and friends, tinkling in the garage, cruising around town in his golf cart, singing karaoke, dancing and attended his grandchildren activities.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna Hamann of Slayton, MN, six children and their spouses, Stacey Manitz and Ray Stephens of Spirit Lake, IA, Jenny and Dave Bosma of Round Lake, MN, Shari Hamann of Knoxville, IA, Stacy and Jeff Like of Slayton, MN, Chad and Ronda Swenson of Slayton, MN and Jody and Lonn Jackels of Slayton, MN, 14 grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, three siblings, Gene Hamann and his wife, Barb of Hardwick, MN, Nancy Hamann of Aurora, CO, and Neale Hamann of Hardwick, MN, one brother-in-law, Larry Olesen of Hurley, SD, one sister-in-law, Diane Hamann of Luverne, MN, and many nieces, nephews and their families. His is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barb Olesen and brother, Douglas Hamann.

Funeral Services were held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter Schuster officiating. The pianist is Patty LeClarie. The song leader is Matt Kopperud. The pallbearers are Logan Like, Landon Like, Caiden Like, Brandon Manitz, Jake Manitz, Carson Bosma, Jochum Wollmuth, Devin Swenson, Brady Johnson and Parker McNiel. Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN. Military honors accorded by the Currie American Legion Post.
