ROBERT “BOB” JO ROBINSON

Bob Robinson was born on November 25, 1937, in Dodge City, Kansas to Owen and Deane Weeks Robinson. He grew up in Garfield, KS and graduated from Garfield High School in 1955. Bob went on to attended Dodge City Community College, Flagstaff University in Flagstaff, AZ, and later Pratt Community College in Pratt, KS. Bob served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves. On December 23, 1961, he and LaRue Kamphaus were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pratt. Following their marriage, they made their home in Pratt until 1965 when they moved to Bayfield, CO. They later moved to Garden City, KS to help their aging parents. Bob worked as a lineman and later supervised the line transmission crew for Sunflower Electric. Bob retired in 2000. In 2011 they moved to Slayton to be near their son, Jim, and his family. Bob passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the age of 87. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. While in Bayfield, Bob helped to organize the Volunteer

Fire Department and later served as chief and helping the department to become a tax supported fire department. He also served one term as a City Councilman, was a member of the Lions Club serving as President for 1 year and was a member the LaPlata Sheriff’s Posse. Bob taught Hunting Safety in Garden City and was a member of the Garden City VFW. Bob was very musical, having sung in community concerts as a young adult. Bob enjoyed hunting game of all size, antique gas engines, buying, restoring, and attended engine shows in many states, and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, LaRue Robinson of Slayton, MN, three children, Veronica Fry and her husband, Gary of Bartlesville, OK, Rhonda Robinson of Roswell, NM, and James Robinson of Slayton, MN, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren with two on the way, one sister, Wilma, Pearson of Smith Center, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald, and Edwin Robinson, one brother-in-law, Keith Pearson and one sister-in-law, Patty Robinson.

Funeral services were at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Antony Arokiyam officiating. The organist was Judy Andrew. The song leader was Sheila Crowley. The pallbearers were his family. Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton are entrusted with arrangement.
