Peggy Jean Schuur, 80, of Fulda, MN died peacefully surrounded by her family at Sanford Hospital in Worthington MN on September 8, 2026, after a courageous fight with liver failure. She was born in Worthington MN on June 13,1946 to Alfred and Ruth (Miller) Gunderman. She was baptized: July 7, 1946, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church-Fulda MN. She was confirmed in her faith on April 10,1960 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church-Fulda MN. As a child she loved growing up on the farm and her love for rocks began as she would climb and play on the rocks pulled from the fields. She attended school at St Paul’s Lutheran School, and then Fulda High School where she graduated in 1964. She attended/graduated from Mankato Business College with an accounting degree and later took college classes at MN West Community College for paraprofessional, psychology and early childhood education.
Peggy married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Gary Schuur at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda MN on Sept 18,1965. The two had a marriage that people dream of having and always put God as the center of their life together. Together their love and family grew by having two sons and a daughter and together they helped raise 22 foster children over the years. They loved spending their days with their children, grandchildren/ great grandchildren and their much loved and devoted goldendoodle Toby. Peggy’s love for children and passion for teaching lead her to operate and run Schuur Kidding Kollege daycare/preschool. She worked as a Head Start teacher for 3 year-old children where she was fondly referred to as Ms. Peggy by so many children. She also worked as a Paraprofessional for the Adrian and Fulda school districts working with elementary children. She had such a love and passion for being a foster parent that she became a Foster Parent educator for the MN Child Welfare Training System teaching future foster parents the skills/techniques of being an amazing foster parentshowing all children from all walks of life that they deserve to be loved. She loved each of her foster children like they were her own and loved watching them become adults and future social workers and owners of restaurants/chefs etc. She was so proud of all the children biological, daycare, preschool or foster children and that she had the opportunity to be part of their lives.
Peggy was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran for many years and returned to American Lutheran Church in Worthington so she could attend church with her family. She loved being part of her bible study group and was a member of the Red Hat ladies, the Ladies Auxiliary and both Peggy and Gary were members of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) where they volunteered at The Life Light Concerts and participated in spreading God’s love and word wherever they could. Peggy retired and cherished and enjoyed living on the lake in Fulda MN until they moved into town. She loved spending her day with her husband and beloved dog Toby enjoying the sunrises/sunsets on the lake, gardening, bird watching, reading a good book and loved her visits and phone calls from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a love for ROCKS, so if you were going anywhere, you could make her smile by bringing her back a rock from your travels.
Peggy is survived by her husband Gary, her two sons Scott Schuur-Omaha NE; Todd (Jennifer) Schuur, Mountain Home, AR; and Amy (Todd) Thier, Fulda, MN and their 8 grandchildren: Brandon (Arianna) Schuur, Lacy Schuur, Tyler (Nandy) Schuur, Jessica (Broc) Timm, Randy Schuur, Matthew (Danielle) Thier, Austin Thier, Zachary Thier; Great grandchildren Brandon Jr, Ender, Elsie, Sawyer, Sora, Landon, Maci and baby Thier coming in February; Three sisters-inlaws; Gladys (Jim) Fleece, Gloria (Chuck) Timmerman, Diane Holland and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Carol Hatfield and brother-in-laws Sid Hatfield and Marvin Holland, Grandson Noah Schuur and a special angel grandchild that she will reunite with in heaven to love and cherish.
Funeral Services were at American Lutheran Church Worthington, MN at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with Pastor Jeremy Holquist officiating. The pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.
