Nancy Lee Burns, age 72 of Westbrook, passed away Monday, April 14, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice. com. Nancy Lee (Busswitz) Burns was born May 24, 1952 to Howard and Elouise (Speckmeier) Busswitz in Westbrook, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Rosehill Lutheran Church and attended country school by Speckmeier corner. She continued her education at Westbrook Public School and graduated from Fulda High School in 1970. Following graduation, Nancy moved to the Twin Cities where she worked for mutual of Omaha. She then moved back to the Westbrook area and worked at Fingerhut in Windom. On November 30, 1974, Nancy was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Burns at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. After the birth of their first child, Nancy became a “stay at home” Mom. The couple had two more children and Nancy cared for them throughout their childhood. She then worked as an activity director at Westbrook Good Samaritan and later at the Westbrook Hospital as a dietary aid. She was a member of the VFW Legion Auxiliary and the Westbrook Cruisers Car Club. Later in life, Nancy received the sacraments and became a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and loved being social. Nancy loved her pets, family gatherings and especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting and dance events.
Nancy is survived by her children: Shannen Burns of Westbrook, Nathan (Nicki) Burns of Sioux Falls, and Tina Burns (special friend Nathan Wehmeyer) of Windom; grandchildren: Mitchell (Megan) Phelps, and Averi & Ana Burns; great grandchildren: Elliot Phelps and one on the way; siblings: Roger (Sharyn) Busswitz of Minneapolis and Gary (Mary Joan) Busswitz of Currie; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers-in-law Gary Burns and Ed Freking.
