Jerry Phillip Nelson died March 13, 2022, under hospice care at Prairie View in Slayton, Minnesota. He was 75.
Jerry was born January 9, 1947, to Oscar and Frances Nelson in St. Joseph, Missouri. As an infant he moved with his parents to Minnesota, where he resided the rest of his life. Because he had cerebral palsy, Jerry lived at home for 44 years and received wonderful care from his parents. He then moved to Prairie View in Slayton.
The caregivers and staff at Prairie View and the DAC brought happiness and encouragement to Jerry’s life. They supported his many interests, took him on special outings and treated him like family. He always enjoyed his interactions with them.
Christmas was Jerry’s favorite holiday. He loved his Christmas tree and all the decorations in his room. Opening gifts on Christmas morning was always an exciting time for him.
Jerry is survived by a brother, Randy, of Ihlen, MN; a sister, Linda, and a niece, Raquel, of Thatcher, AZ; as well as several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held on Monday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Totzke Funeral Home, Slayton, with private burial at a later date.
